I am all for Rios. He would be a tremendous upgrade in right and a middle of the order bat. I also feel Ramirez is a significant upgrade over what we have if we don't part with a top 5 prospect. Dangle Josh Bell and some B level prospects like Lambo and a pitcher. I think a change of scenery would be great for them both and would deepen the lineup and lengthen the bench.

I want no part of Rios, not for a B prospect and not for a C prospect, and definitely not for Josh Bell. He is a below average player with a contract that we would be stuck with. There is not a single player in the White Sox I would even consider, and I actually like Peavy and Konerko, but no thanks.

I agree. Rios just doesn't do it for me either. Most of all, he doesn't hit well with runners in scoring position. We've already got that covered. I'd be happy if we added a legit bench bat or 2. I think the Bucs might wind up getting more out of a guy like Konerko or Ibanez than somebody like Rios.

I'm kind of changing my thought process on Rios, not sure I give up Josh Bell, that is 5 million down the drain, and a little too much IMO. Rios has about 18 million left in salary, assuming they wouldn't pick up the 2015 option, if the Chi Sox pick up 8-10 million, and don't want anyone of major consequence I think it's workable.

I'm not sure the Sox do that, but Kenny Williams is kind of crazy with trades. It would be nice if they could include Presley/Snider/Sands/Lambo as part of the package going the other way, since the OF situation would be really crowded from AA on up, and they need some ROI on some of those assets.

His salary is not really out of whack. He underperformed the first half but he has started the second half on fire. He also would be great to tide over until Polanco comes up. Whether you like him or not he is 10x more dangerous than Tabata or Snider and would fit perfectly behind Cutch and Alvarez. He still has decent speed and our ballpark will hide some of his deficiencies on defense. He is the best option out there and a fit for what we need. I don't love him but he is better than the current options.

It really isn't that easy. Lambo isn't on the 40 man roster so a spot would have to be cleared. Inge would seem to be the easy choice, however, the one thing Inge has that Lambo doesn't is a track record.

Another factor is that Lambo has heen very pedestrian in the month of July. He has 2HR and a .716OPS. I think his OBP is barely over .300 in the month as well. So basically Tabata is performing better in July at the major league level than Lambo is at AAA. Lambo also has a pretty significant platoon split so you could not even platoon him in RF with any of the other 3 options we have on the roster.

Basically Lambo has more value to us as a "prospect" in AAA than he would on a major league roster. He could be a third player added in a trade for a rental player we pick up for the stretch run.

That being said, if we don't make a move to pick up a bat and Lambo can adjust to AAA pitching in the next couple weeks, he would almost have to come up before July 31 so that he could be available for us to use on our playoff roster.

Brandon Inge & his "Track Record" has given us absolutly nothing all year long.

Cut the cord.

Cubs got a lot for Garza, although the sp market was weak.

Keeping him out of St. Louis is an added bonus, too. Although, i kind of like Bud Norris more than Garza and he is definitely trade bait

Yeah seems like a lot for Garza?
Norris would be good but it seems like the Astros want way too much for him.

Another starting pitcher that is available is Jake Peavy, the big issue he is owed 30 million over the next two years. If they can pull off an AJ Burnett type coup (meaning the sox take on most of his contract) he might be a good replacement for AJ if he retires after this season. I guess health concerns recently for him but when he pitches he has been good.

With the likes of Rios if they can get the Sox to take on most of his contract and that it DOES NOT include Polanco I am fine with it. Ramirez on the other hand not too keen on if you look he has regressed each year in the league and not sure if he is losing his bat speed but it seems the power numbers are regressing also.

Yeah like the Peavy idea, starting pitching market is weak though, think he will be expensive.

Bullpen is the one area where we can absorb some injuries. Jared Hughes, Ryan Reid, Vic Black, any of the three should be ableto fill a role in the bullpen without a significant dropoff.

agree, the last thing we should be trading for is BP help.
unfortunately, it dwindles some of our bargaining chips as P was our surplus.

I agree. We have a lot of middle relivers, but who out of everyone left do you feel holding down the 8th (besides Melancon)? I guess Wilson, but he's been uneven since a nasty start. Maybe the tandem of Morris and Wilson take the 8th?

If Grilli is out they are going to need help. Wilson could handle the back end, Morris' peripherals are horrible this year, I don't trust him at all.

hughes had some nasty stuff when healthy last year, and finally seems to be getting healthy again this year.

i know martin has done a nice job with our staff, but as a converted 2B, i dont see him being a good pitch/location strategist. morton could have avoided the big inning last nite with better game calling and i dont think martin is helping cole out either.
i think martin holds wilson and morris back, and martin lets burnett burn himself up because he wont overtrump burnetts game plan.
havent seen enough of him with the mazzaro, gomez, watson, wandy.
i think locke has a good idea of what his strngths are and he coaches martin in what kind of game to call as it is different than any other that martin calls.
hopefully sanchez, a lifer at catcher, brings more accumen to the position.

I really like Wilson. I think he could be a closer real soon.

I don't think we will need to trade for pen help. Lots of talented relievers in AAA. My bet is that a combination of Morris/Wilson/Watson take over the 8th. Bucs also promoted Vic Black today, who has the makings of a future closer, not saying he's going to close games now, maybe if he impresses he might get a chance at some point later in the season.

There's an interesting article on Pirates prospects that explains the bullpen situation:
Pirates Prospects » Taking a Look at the Pirates? Bullpen Depth

Worth a read imo

Finally Inge is gone!

Anyway if Walker can heat up to his normals and Mercer keeps as he is now. I am fine with those two and Barmes as the backup MI. Yeah an upgrade would be nice but I would like to see value added at RF/1B an SP.
