All these trades going down today and the past week, it looks like deadline day will be a snoozer in comparison to years past.

I don't think so. There will a lot of deals for rentals. Plus every team battling for a playoff spot is going to want to add at least 1 more defenseman. Heck Montreal was down to 4 defenseman last night against Edmonton.

I think there will be plenty of movement, but not a lot of big names moving. Richards is the only possibility, and that's fairly unlikely. Other than that I don't see any huge names ala Hossa '08, etc.

For once the Pens don't have to worry about getting more D. We're set there...I guess that's a blessing in disguise because that dilutes the market for forwards a bit.

If Dallas continues to take a nose dive in the standings Richards will be dealt. The Rangers will certainly be calling.

The Rangers always seem to want these big names...I just don't understand Sather. As was mentioned in another thread, why trade for this guy only to have to resign him and then be forced to trade him farther down the line when you wanna grab the next big name hits the market. Seems to be the NY way of doing things. All about the names.

Torts won a cup with Richards. If they don't trade for him they will find a way to sign him on July 1st.

Good point...hadn't thought about that connection. I still have a feeling that he stays unless the Stars drop significantly.

I really hope the trade deadline is slow for one team in particular... I hope the Pens make zero moves.

EDIT: I suppose, any players that would be involved in trades, it would be lovejoy or goligoski and/or a draft pick. Despres should make the squad next year, so both of these players are expendable. But I really hope nothing happens.

IMO, it's safe to assume Sid will not be back this year...

They know more than we do. If an opportunity comes up I'm for it, and it seems like they're focusing (based on reports) on some guys they think fit with the team for the future. Shero's smart, he won't mortgage the future. The biggest trade he ever made was complete highway robbery. Dupuis (the throw in player) is better than anyone sent to the Thrash.

The Sabres will make a huge deal by the trade deadline. (well at least a huge deal by Sabres standards considering it's been 8 years since they actually did anything by the trade deadline)

what woudl go back?

here is a question Dash. - you are on the cusp of the playoffs. you hvae a team that is humming and plenty of players that could return some decent picks/prospects.

what do you do? it will be the same team next year with the same cap but OLDER.

do you take a shot at the playoffs? or do you trade to get assets and hope to make it still?

If it's for the future ok... if it's for this year... leave it alone. No rentals/ufas. Not this year.
