Jerry loves him some Razorback.

He does but I'm pretty sure this is only the 2nd Arkansas player he's ever had, not sure why people always say this lol (I guess Clint Stoerner was there for a little bit but it's not like he was expected to do anything)

McFadden isn't as explosive as he once was but he's still a good blocker and receiver. Could be a nice change of pace back but don't think he'll be a #1 guy anymore or anything.

McFadden has never had a season like Murray did. Yeah they are both injury prone, but McFadden much more so. Basically no believes McFadden can be the answer, just a short term fill in. Some still believe that Murray could be the answer, they may be wrong, but it's still up in the air. That's the difference IMO.

Totally agree on McFadden. People overbought into the weekly Fox promos about the 3 Dallas 1st round draft pick OL. Murray is an elite RB. He got the easy yards, but more importantly he got the tough yards. His stiff arm alone got him 10-15 first downs that most backs wouldn't have gotten. The Dallas OL is a top line in the league and I agree McFadden never ran behind an OL like this, but Murray's per carry average was better before 2014 than after. So it's not just the OL and as stated on the Cowboy board, its not "plug and play". The only knock on Murray is his health and that is even a bigger knock on McFadden.

The McFadden move is a good move for the Cowboys if looked at for what it is, a guy to come in an compete for a job and POSSIBLY win a job as the lead back. It's low risk/high reward, but it is not rational to think the Cowboys just filled their RB question or even made the team better than they would be without signing McFadden. Sometimes you luck out and get Rolando McClain and other times you get what you paid for. At this time I would say it's 50/50 that McFadden even makes the team.

I was counting on a pass rusher in the first round, I hate to see a #1 spent on a RB. Of course at 28 it's pretty much a second rounder any way.

It wasn't just the line for Murray. He breaks tackles and make folk miss tackles. Maybe I'm over impressed watching him play the Seahawks, but he had a hell of a day, making guys blow tackles and gaining chunk yardage. Never saw McFadden do that , at least not to that extent.

this has been might point all along- people thinking you can just stick anyone in there and it'll all be the same, because of the OL, etc., just is not true.

They'll find someone, or most likely several guys, and try to get a good percentage of what they had last year. But aint gonna find 1850 yards, 25+carries a game, 14 TDs (or whatever he had). Just not going to replace that in one year.

That being said, I wouldnt have paid more than 6 mil a year to keep Murray. So, as Jerrah said, basically the salary cap era is the reason Murray is not still a Cowboy. Cowboys did what they had to do.

If Darren McFadden does something that has never been done in Dallas Cowboys' history he will make $5.85 million over the next two seasons.

If he fails to rush for 1,000 yards in either season, the base value of the contract is $3 million.

McFadden received a $200,000 signing bonus and will receive a $900,000 base salary in 2015 for a $1.15 million cap figure. He earns $9,375 for every game he is on the 46-man roster. In 2016, he will earn a base salary of $1.25 million and has per-game roster bonuses that can earn him an extra $500,000. If he does not play in eight games in 2015, then the max he could earn on those per-game bonuses in 2016 is $250,000.

If he runs for 1,600 yards in back-to-back years, he will earn an extra $2.85 million. The closest in team history any running back has come to that was in 1991 and 1992 when Emmitt Smith ran for 1,563 and 1,713 yards, respectively.

If McFadden rushes for 1,000, 1,200, 1,350 or 1,600 yards in either year, he can earn up to $2.1 million. He would earn an extra $750,000 with consecutive 1,600 yard seasons. Back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons would net him an extra $250,000, and back-to-back 1,400-yard seasons would net him an extra $500,000.

If McFadden, who has one 1,000-yard season in his career, can do what Smith or Tony Dorsett did, the Cowboys will gladly pay him $5.85 million and would have a terrific bargain on their hands.

Might be one of Dallas's better contracts before it's all done.
Low risk for sure and coupled with one of these rookie backs could be most favorable results

I'm okay with Mcfaddeen, Adrian Peterson couldn't run behind the Raiders OL.

Just looking at talent, McFadden is at least as good as Murray. I think this is a pretty low risk move for Dallas that could pay off really well. This is better than paying Murray what Philly did.
Murray is better than McFadden. McFadden has never fulfilled his potential.

It's not a bad deal IMO. I'd grade it a B or B+. They are throwing really no money his direction ($200K guaranteed) so he can be cut any time. McFadden a couple-few years ago was marked as one of the more explosive backs in the NFL and he played all 16 games this last season.

He'll be running behind the #1 ranked OL in the NFL and according to pro football focus, the Raiders were 24th in run blocking (16th overall) so that's a HUGE difference.

I doubt Dallas will be going into the season with the intent that McFadden will be their feature back for 300+ carries. That's why we still have the draft and plenty of free agency left.

I hope they take Melvin Gordon if he is available when they pick in the first round.

Yeah but running behind the best OL(Dallas) is easier than running behind the worst(Oakland).
Am I wrong?
You are right for once.... Congratulations!
