Whatever it takes to keep him in Detroit. I've been told you pay your best players at all cost. He fits that bill these days.

We can always do what Mayhew(and many Lions fans) would do wait until he gets to test the open market and watch some team snatch him up at whatever high end CB are getting paid in 2017/18(14 million per anyone?). Smart teams sign there studs early its good for both the players and the teams in the long term.(Not really directing this post at you Gandy just have seen some fans that want us to wait on Ziggy and Slay)

Not 20 mil a year.

Despite CB actually being an impact position.

You know that RosenJew will be getting him top dollar no matter what.

Gonna be ugly. But when you're the Lions, you gotta keep your best guys at all costs. See Suh.

I thought Tom Lewand got fired? There's no way in **** Darius Slay has proven himself for that kind of check. That's the problem with the Lions... Players look great for that contract extension and ride the Gravy Train until the next contract extension. The Lions are retarded if Slay gets anything over 3 million a year.

According to PFF, Slay only gave up 3 TDs all year. Considering we gave up 400 points (only 9 teams were worse) I'd like to know how many Mathis gave up. 40?

3 million a year? I think u may be on the low end by about 4 or 5 million a year. Slay will sign a deal in the 7-9 million a year range. He isn't in the class as the top CBs. My guess is he will take a 4 year deal so he can get a big deal after that if he continues to progress

Agree w Jesse. 11 million is All Pro cash. He's a great Lion, but he's not a great NFL CB...yet.

How much are you willing to overpay him?

I wanted Suh but knew the money wasn't there from previous fuckups. You opened this by saying how will you overpay Slay? He showed the year he is not a product of Suh. He deserves to be paid as such. What's that price? IDK, but he needs to be paid to stay.

Those were your words. So pay him at all cost.

He's not top tier, but sure seems headed that way. Don't pay him and watch him possibly be elite elsewhere. That will be a bitch session to read later though.

Year 3-5 are when these kids make the separation of mediocre and top talent. He was a press cover guy forced into zone coverage his rookie year. He has shown great strides the last two seasons. I'm gambling he will be worth the money.

Of course this might be that I want to see a dominant cover guy one day in Detroit. So I'm just dreaming.

Why wasn't the money there to sign Suh? This is the opinion that confuses me with many here. TP pointed out the contract the Lions offered. If being in Detroit was what he wanted, he would be here still. He wanted to get the biggest contract he could. So now he is Miami's problem to deal with.

DeAngelo Hall is only making around 4.5 million a year and you think Darius Slay is wroth 7-9 a year? Like I said... Slay has in no way proven himself. Slay thinks 2 interceptions, 40+ tackles and zero forced fumbles is good enough to be in the Pro Bowl.

Agree with Gandy that he appears to be headed toward being elite. That is why I think he will sign a 3-4 year deal, so he will have financial security and a chance for a monster contract if he continues progressing

LWM. Deangelo Hall is 32 years old and he was moved to safety by Washington because his cover skills faded at CB. So I have no clue why you bring him up?
