I know the draft is still over 2 weeks away, but I wanted to make sure I started my Draft Poe thread in the unlikely case he's still there when the Niners pick.

...Although this kind of thing might've been what jynxed the chimpanzee-led Niners' front office in 2004 when they passed on Wilfork. :(

IF he's the top talent at 30, fine with me. some of the mocks have him going higher than 30, so its possible he is?

i know NT isn't a big need, but we have to look at it over his career, not just this season.

Mike Martin disagrees.

You'd take Mike Martin at 30? You'd take him over Poe???

If either Poe or Nick Perry are sitting there at 30 and the Niners don't take them my head just might explode... ...again.

No, but I'd rather take Martin in the 3rd than Poe in the first.

wilfolk actually performed in college unlike poe. i was intrigued by poe before the combine, but if someone is that athletic and strong he should have performed better in college. kris jenkins and shaun rogers put up much better seasons and they both dropped well into the 2nd.

poe to me is 3rd round material

In college Jenkins's biggest accolades was making the second team All-ACC during his senior season. He finished his career with 9.5 sacks and 154 tackles.

Wifork on the other hand, was a little different as we all had witnessed during his collegiate career in Miami. He didn't dominate like Suh and Fairley did, but he had a great / boder line dominate junior year in Miami. Wilfork did not start a single game his freshman season, but played in every game as a defensive tackle, finishing tenth in the team on tackles with 41 while also recording a sack and forcing three fumbles. He did not start a game in his 2002 sophomore season either, but still recorded 43 tackles and seven sacks. Before the 2003 season, Wilfork was rated the second best defensive tackle in the country by The Sporting News and went on to start all 13 games for Miami. He finished the year with a career high 64 tackles and led the team with 20 quarterback hurries. He was named to the All-Big East Conference first-team following the season.

In comparison, Poe compares favorably to them in terms of collegiate accolades / accomplishments on-off the field.

I'll tell you, Mike Martin's wrestling background is huge with the position he plays. I look at intangibles like that when evaluating defensive players.

That's why I was so high on Robert Quinn last season, though I'm glad (now) that we drafted Aldon.

hell no don't draft poe!

Shouldn't you be chanting that with a picket sign?

I say if he's there past about 14 the Niners would be stupid not to trade up for him.

Same with David Decastro except maybe a few picks later than 14.

I'm a fan of both, but I like Martin better. I think he can be a stud in our scheme.

I've gotta disagree with this one. I think Chapman is easily a better NT prospect than Martin. In fact I think Martin has a better chance of being a stud at DE than NT in a 3-4. JMHO.

So far this offseason we're in agreement about most things except Chapman VS Martin, Randle VS Sanu and Perry VS Curry.

...DRAFT POE!!! 11 more days 'til the draft...
