He caught 20 games last year and none so far this year. My understanding is that his defense behind the plate is very suspect and that is the reason he's only played 1st base and DH so far in 2022.

I based that purely on how he was listed on RosterResources and MLBTR. He has never caught in the bigs and BBRef doesn’t show defense in the minors.

Actually, he caught in 2 games with the White Sox last year and BBRef does show minor league defensive numbers.

Either way, good or bad, he has historically been primarily a catcher. Worth a look if all it “costs” is Papierski.



Edit: Speaking of Papierski, I just looked up Dubon. He is struggling with Houston. I wouldn’t be shocked if they DFA him soon.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Papierski makes it through waivers and ends up back in Sacramento.

With Disco being activated to start tonights game, the Giants need a corresponding 40 man move. Barring some kind of surprising trade, someone will have to be DFA'd or put on the 60-day IL today.

Shittell is a candidate to be optioned, and perhaps that's more likely than Long. Long has been filling a valuable role (long relief) for a staff that now has two guys who aren't fully built up yet (Cobb, DeSclafani).

The Giants placed LHP Jose Alvarez on the 15-day IL with lower back tightness, which creates roster space to activate Anthony DeSclafani from the 60-day IL. The corresponding 40-man move was to recall RHP Sam Delaplane and place him on the 60-day IL with a forearm strain.
