People are asking why Michael Conforto wasn't also placed on waivers. That's because the Giants would rather be Conforto instead of Sinforto. Hope this helps.

Taylor is solid. But he is PAID. And if he isn’t trusted by the coaching staff, for whatever reason (that we are clearly not privy to), than organizationally, he is probably a net negative to the Giants right now.

Looking at his numbers, and relying on the eye test, he is an asset, though. I am not sure why he isn’t put in higher leverage situations (trusting the article’s claim about the “leverage metric”).
I'd never heard of this leverage metric that the author mentioned. It would be interesting to see where that is coming from and how is measure's leverage situations.

What is the point of DFAing players enmass like this? I am not used to this strategy

Only Estrada and Matzek were DFA’d. Rogers and was placed on waivers. They were essentially trying to save themselves money. He is a very good reliever, but he is making a LOT of money.

Technically, only Estrada was DFA'd. Matzek was put on outright release waivers after being put on conditional waivers (if I remember the terminology correctly).

By the way, Estrada already shows up on the RiverCats' roster.

He had to if he wanted to be paid. If he walked, he was leaving the contract behind.
