If I remember correctly, what Ray said after that game and what Melvin said suggested two different approaches. Ray said his injury was minimal and he wanted to be pulled because he learned to play through it would just make it worse. He expected to miss maybe 1 turn in the rotation. Melvin also suggested that the injury was minimal but that the kind of injury still means some time to get over. Seems he was trying to suggest that Ray may be done this year.
If this season weren’t over, I would be on the side of “let’s see if he can get back”. But there is no reason for him to rush back, outside his own internal competitiveness. And that is also a legit motivation, so maybe he will be back, but the team should be AOK with him shutting it down until spring.

Hicks placed on 15
Warren called up

Slusser reported that Warren was still on the 60 and that a corresponding 40 move is coming. That is inaccurate as Warren was activated and optioned a while ago.

That is correct, Warren is already on the 40.

Edit: And Hicks lasted longer than I thought this season before being put on the IL.

The reported “injury” is a bit concerning, but as you alluded to, we fully expected him to be shut down at some point, so until we have an actual reason for concern, I will CHOOSE to not be concerned.

Amazingly, Reetz cleared waivers and was sent to Sacto.

He could still walk as a free agent.
He could, but why would he? It is too late in the season for him to latch on anywhere to put him in a better situation. At least with the Giants, he is getting occasional 40 time and a few days of MLB paychecks.

Ego. The team has quickly thrown him away twice. Maybe he feels he could find a better opportunity elsewhere.

Bring back August trades.
I imagine everyone here knows you can still make trades but those traded after the Trade Deadline can't appear in the Playoffs. Playoffs is that a magical Kingdom that the Giants aren't allowed into? :brick:

I do NOT understand waiving TaRog. He has been one of their best relievers. He hardly allows any inherited runners to score: 7-27. His ERA is a full run below his career, and his WHIP is in line with his career number.

I have heard stories from the old-old times that the Giants used to go occasionally.

I suppose the thinking is that you can unload the contract -- he's the fifth highest paid player next year (fourth after Snelk opts out) if someone bites.

I doubt anyone bites.

From the MLBTR article:

"The 33-year-old Rogers is a former All-Star closer with the Twins. He has remained effective over his two seasons in San Francisco. After turning in a 3.83 earned run average across 51 2/3 innings a year ago, he carries a 2.45 mark in 51 1/3 frames this season. Rogers has fanned an above-average 28.2% of opponents against a solid 7.7% walk rate. He has been generally solid all year yet hasn’t pitched his way into first-year manager Bob Melvin’s circle of trust.

By measure of leverage index, Rogers has been eighth on San Francisco’s bullpen hierarchy (among relievers with at least 10 innings). That hasn’t changed throughout the season despite Rogers’ numbers. It’s understandable the Giants wouldn’t want to pay $12MM next season to a reliever whom Melvin feels is best suited in the middle innings."

Taylor is solid. But he is PAID. And if he isn’t trusted by the coaching staff, for whatever reason (that we are clearly not privy to), than organizationally, he is probably a net negative to the Giants right now.

Looking at his numbers, and relying on the eye test, he is an asset, though. I am not sure why he isn’t put in higher leverage situations (trusting the article’s claim about the “leverage metric”).
