Cal's post went up while I was typing apparently.

Beaty is a head scratcher. I guess FZ knows him from his time in LA.
Very much a head scratcher. We carry on the OP roster a reject from the Dodgers, Padres and Royal?!?! (although, he had some encouraging numbers during his time with the Dodgers, so there is some potential. Still, why?)

Jackson on the 15 day IL. I guess they can always move him to the 60 but maybe he's getting healthy?

Pisco released. #forevergiant

Anyone know anything about Beatty?

He is only 29, but he doesn’t appear to have much of a bat, and his defensive metrics (I am only looking at it since I have nothing else to go by) says he is a net negative defensively. Maybe they just want Bryce to prove it in “real” games Before he gets added back?
Because FZ gotta FZ.

seems like a Connor Joe move, but we'll see.

Piscotty probably exercised his opt out clause and the Giants decided that they need Beaty more than they needed Piscotty. FZ's moves are real head scratchers sometimes.

Joe was young and a Rule V. Seeing that he has developed into a serviceable starting-level outfielder, I think it fair to say they didn’t give Joe enough rope.

Beatty is just an interchangeable widget.

Maybe a better comp is Donovan Walton. Hope the Giants don't ship some mid level prospect for a seemingly unnecessary acquisition.

I will say, his two big league seasons with the most playing time, he did post an OPS+ slightly over league average.

Matt Beaty has posted a 98 wRC+ against RHP throughout his career, so he gives the Giants decent leverage as a platoon hitter in the bottom of the lineup.

Kidding, I know who he is but seriously, why not Bart?

Were we not ALL expecting Bart?

This fucking team.
He is on the roster. OP lineup assignment does not mean the guy is the starter. It could simply be that they wanted the best game caller on the staff to catch the first game. Although, @calsnowskier could probably catch the Yankees would still strike out 20 times today.
