Giants used the 40 man roster spot available after Wood's COVID IL placement.

Baggs article today confirmed that Solano's COVID was a breakthrough case and that Wood "wasn't comfortable disclosing his vaccination status."

OTOH, Woods time on the IL will end up costing him in excess of $1.5M due to inability to reach incentives. To which I say: Good. Phuk that guy.

Solano expected back shortly. Wood "feeling better and will throw this weekend off a mound" and expected back soonish. No update on JC...his elbow is phuked.

Cueto update: won't be back regular season...small shot at playoffs
Looks like his Giants career ends on a whimper.

Thats too bad. He deserves better. Not that he was a GREAT Giant, but he gave us 1 CY-level season, so you can’t be too upset with him. And regardless of outcome, he was always fun to watch pitch. Very unique.

The Giants picking up Jewell, just to pass him through waivers seems a bit extra to me. He's going to be a minor league free agent in about 3 weeks. What is the point? He's looked good at AAA but stunk at the MLB level this year (albeit, SSS). At this point in the season, just call up Moronta if you need extra help.

What if the idea is to get a close up look at him for three weeks to decide if the org wants to invest time and money into an offer?

They had him in the org in 2020 (at the ATS). Not sure that is needed.
Maybe they liked him. Claiming him is all about reminding him that they like him and giving them a window to talk with him.

:noidea:

As near as I can tell, Tyler Chatwood somehow went from being dfa'd to being placed on the 10 day IL. A few days ago I pasted the transaction from sfgiants.com. I checked their website again today and he is listed on the 40 man roster and as being on the 10 day IL. BBRef also lists him this way. However, MLB Trade Rumors doesn't show any updated information after the initial dfa announcement.
If the team was able to cancel the dfa and put him on the 10 day, then when both Wood and Solano get activated, they will need to make room on the 40 man roster as that roster currently has 40 players on it. However, that doesn't explain how the Giants were able to claim Jewell and then dfa him if the 40 man roster is already full. Something is being reported incorrectly on the team website, unless Chatwood is on the COVID IL.

Edit; I did some research and found a couple of articles only saying that Chatwod was put on the IL on Sept 7th per Kerry Crowley. So I went on his Twitter feed and found this:

Jose Quintana is back from paternity list, Mauricio Dubon optioned to AAA. Alex Wood is throwing a bullpen session and Giants will map out next steps after he’s done.

Alex Wood threw a 21-pitch live BP session and felt good, though he’s still working on getting his energy levels back to normal. Gabe Kapler said he could return to the rotation as early as Saturday against the Braves.

So I guess the revised rotation is: Gas/Webb/Wood/Disco/Wholestaff

Donovan Solano could be activated within the next few days, but Alex Dickerson’s rehab assignment will likely be extended so he can get some more at-bats.
