Gotta think that is the end of the road for Beede. He is now out of options, so he will have be on the opening day roster next year, or be on the DL (again). Not certain he even makes it to spring training.

From Kerry Crowley:

Brandon Belt will go on the bereavement list today, but the Giants are still deciding whether to activate Chadwick Tromp or Thairo Estrada.

Estrada makes the most sense but if Posey is going to be out for a couple more days, they'll want to have another catcher on the roster. Too bad Bart is injured right now.

From Baggs:

Brandon Belt has been placed on the bereavement list and Donovan Solano is on the injured list. SF added both Chadwick Tromp and Thairo Estrada for tonight's game.

Makes room on the 40 for Solano. I assume, he, Longoria and Estrada will the September call ups when roster expand to 29.

Longo likely to be activated tomorrow. Solano on Thurs. Estrada will certainly be called up. I'm wondering who the other will be.

Weird, I thought I read somewhere that it was 29. September isn't what it used to be. Lots of guys who deserves call ups won't be getting them.
I think opening the rosters to 40 was crazy. But 28 is kinda weird as well.

How about opening the “roster” to 40, but only 28 can be active for any given game? You could deactivate your SPs every game to allow a deeper bench, pay the kids a MLB pay check and give them the experience of being in the clubhouse at the same time.

I think the solution is around 34. 40 was dumb and made for a lot of (Bochy) 4 hour games in September. 28 is too few. They did add a taxi squad this year, which is essentially what you're talking about, so that gives us six more guys who can theoretically be available any given day.

The taxi squad allows the player to hang out, but you can’t quickly interchange the players on a game-by-game basis. That’s what I am calling for here.

Allow a team to carry 40 players (and pay 40 players per game), but only 28 (or whatever number) of those 40 can be active for any given game. This forces the games themselves to be played in a somewhat consistent manner but still allows for an enlarged roster. Just as before, teams don’t HAVE to carry the full 40. That is up to their own discretion. But they can, if they like, remove 4 SP from the roster each game and put in additional bully arms or bench players. The 13 pitcher cap would necessarily be removed (which is a dumb rule anyway)
