Biggie would need to A) clear waivers, and B) accept the assignment. While I suspect he may accept the assignment if he did clear, I doubt he would clear waivers.

We don't have any pitchers that can be sent down. Someone would need to be "hurt".

Edit: Machi can be optioned, but there is no way in hell he is sent down.

Great point. Forgot about waivers.

They can't keep carrying 13 pitchers though. Does Guti need to clear waivers?

I believe so. But if he is lost, I don't think it is a big loss.

I added a few notations to your original post, Cal, indicating the pitchers handedness, age, and current minor league level. Hope you didn't mind.

I noticed that, and no, I dont mind. Please add your own touch :)

Matt Cain could rejoin rotation Saturday
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Giants manager Bruce Bochy told MLB Network Radio Tuesday starting pitcher Matt Cain (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday. If all goes well, then Cain will rejoin the rotation Saturday at St. Louis.

Manager Bruce Bochy told CSNBayArea.com Tuesday that Casilla has been able to play catch since first doing so Sunday. Casilla was given a 4-to-6 week timetable to return from the injury, but Bochy acknowledged he could be back before four weeks, given how well his recovery is going right now.

No rush on either pitcher!!

We have a 5-game lead, and having these guys healthy later in the season is more important than having them now with tender legs.

Fully agreed. But it is nice to know that if they are able to come back sooner, then their injuries must not have been as bad as first thought.

Cain moved to the 15-DL. No word yet on who was called up.

Bigger question: with Casilla due back pretty soon, who goes?

Kontos? Guti?

Phantom injury and DL?

We have an open 40-spot now...

Sounds like the Giants could add a certain catcher if they so please.

Happy Days are here again!!!

He will clear, and likely accept the assignment, if the Giants want him. Not sure there is any reason for us to keep him around.

He said he was surprised by the DFA, but loved his time here. He said he would accept an assignment if he clears.

I am doubting he'll clear. There are so many bad bullpens in the majors. I can't imagine Cincy, for instance, doesn't claim him.

I mean, I can't say I would lose any sleep over it if we lost him. Even if he accepts an assignment, he's behind PLENTY of arms trying to crack the bullpen.

If he was surprised, he is a moron who needs to be reminded how to breath on a daily basis.
