NASCAR is back in Indiana this week for the Brickyard 400. Don't know who the hell Jeff Kyle is but NASCAR in its infinite dumbassness is renaming the frikin race for the week-end. Maybe Kyle is one of Brian France's LGBT drivers? Who knows?

Jeff Kyle is a Chris Kyle's(American Sniper movie) brother, and a Marine Vet.

That is seriously what his credentials are. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan, but it's all about his brother being Chris Kyle.

Personally, as much as I support the military and such, I dislike this kind of thing to be completely honest. Naming out 1 guy because of his brother and being a vet just to me screams this is just a PR stunt. Should just honor them all if you want to do such a thing.

It's a struggle for me because I want to see vets get the support they deserve. But at the same time I really don't like it when I think people are using them for PR.

Great points 4down20. Typical of NASCAR to align themselves with causes and issues just for the PR. I agree with your last two sentences. Just about encapsulates the influence of Brian France these days.

I'm hoping that the new rules package won't make the race single-file and boring with no passing, but that's what Brickyard races always end up being. Hopes are not high.

Part of the collateral damage with the rules package of this egomanical-idiot run NASCAR these days, Pariah.

I've never really thought it was a great racing track for Nascar, but it has the historical value and that's kind of cool.

Plus it's unique, so I like that about it as well.

The straights are too long and the corners too narrow and sharp for cars of their weight/grip.

Hasn't Crown Royal done this in the past though? I seem to remember them naming races for vets and also some voting contest.

I'm not sure. I've never heard of it, but I don't make watching Nascar a priority anymore like I did once upon a time, so I could have easily missed it.

I don't pay much attention to the race sponsors either. I'm just fairly certain there have been names before. I just can't recall if its vets or civilians. None of it is all that important. Just something neat for that person. I think they fly em out to the race for VIP treatment.

Kyle Busch wins the race at Indy today. Let's see what occurs tomorrow.

I hate the Brickyard. It is not meant for NASCAR, and the low quality of the race there prove it. It is an open wheel sanctuary.

I don't see the Brickyard as one of NASCAR's premiere events. It has a short history. The action is dull.

Scrap this race and give Darlington another race.

Is that a poor sound system, or are they doing some cheap effect on the national anthem?

Mrs Pickler is easy on the eyes and all, but with that echo, it was hard to listen to the prerace Star Spangled Banner.

Times like this is when I miss ESPN doing the races. All the races started 1 PM local time on ESPN

Not entirely true.

Homestead has been a 3 PM start for a few year now.

And I'm assuming you meant other than night races.

That was the only day race that starts at 3 PM. Every other day race on ESPN for the last 2 years or so started 1 PM local time

I actually like the late afternoon starts. I get to watch most of the Braves game before the race starts.

I don't mind it until September. When football season starts it is very hard for me to give nascar races on Sunday afternoon much attention.

I used to go the Brickyard & sit in the Turn Two stands, which USED to be packed. Now it looks like they have no reason to be open at all.

Like Chewbaccer said, it's not the best track for Sprint Cup cars to strut their stuff. - Plus it's usually hot/humid as balls in Indy in late July.
