Knowing how much playing hockey at the highest level means to Sid (or most any player for that matter) and then hoping that he is unable to play ever again is pretty shitty. It's his lifeblood/livelihood.

Maybe I am taking it personally. Maybe it's because, though I was very young, I loved Mario Lemieux. And watching a generational talent be sidelined every year for something different made me sick to my stomach. But it's cool - he only had cancer. You know, something that wouldn't allow him to play hockey, but shit he was still alive.

I don't want to watch that again. I don't want that for Sid. I also didn't want that for Savard. And I don't want it for OV, Datsyuk, Tavares, Stamkos or any number of players in this league. That someone would actively wish for that to happen is horrible.

That's a little different b/c his situation was so life threatening. I also loved Mario (even if he constantly burned us). Best ever in my book.

Maybe I phrased my original question/statement poorly. Didn't mean to offend. Like I said, I'm a Caps' fan before I'm a hockey fan. That's just me.

If you gave me the choice of Crosby continuing to play or the Caps winning a Cup, I'd take the latter. Maybe that's how I should have set up the scenario. In any case, it's not a one or the other I'm pretty certain Crosby is going to be okay, which is why I don't really feel bad about my post. I think he'll be back to full strength before long. People being super worried about this setback have to remember he usually misses 5-10 games a year anyway. It's not really out of the ordinary assuming it's not his head.

You're also simplifying it more than I originally wrote it. It was loaded with caveats including not wanting to see anyone go after him and not hoping he actually any "real" health problems, just enough that he couldn't play hockey. Those are pretty important distinctions.
