Also, things like the world is only 6000 years old is silly. It's beyond proven fact that the world is at LEAST billions of years old. 6000 is some people's own interpretation of the Bible. But from there people start making outlandish claims like science is false or that there is no God because this one person's interpretation of one religion's texts is that the world is only 6000 years old.

There you go again..... Practicing historical science.

I must admit, having been a Christian or under Christian influences, all my life, I am predisposed to believe in the spiritual.

just out of curiousity.

for the non-spirituals out there, would you visit this house, ever? for any amount of money would you live there?

keep in mind, yes the 2nd 2 links are from a Christian blog, but the first one is from a reputable newspaper.

Those were all intuitions that science CORRECTED. Just as it corrected the ridiculous notion that humans lived with dinosaurs.

I honestly don't understand why religious folks get so up and arms about this stuff. There are billions of people that are religious that don't deny findings from science. The director of the NIH is a devout christian. Nobody said you had to give up your faith to believe in science.

Eh... Im pro science and I HATE this argument. They werent intuitions. They were regarded as FACT to the point that claiming otherwise was heresy. Its cool for science to evolve but lets not twist it up. Science is wrong way more often than its right historically speaking and the reason the religious nutjobs get pissed is when some pro science people claim that what we currently deem as fact is 100% undeniable. No science is certain even if we are certain it is... just the way it is.

Who said it was?

Science is both testable and falsifiable. It CAN evolve. Science is never wrong -- Predictions and hypotheses are wrong. Theories can be disproven and modified.

Because new data and new findings may change are thinking about nature does that mean we should dismiss educated thought for beliefs that rely on faith alone?

And the flat earth stuff is completely overstated. Most people since the middle ages believed in a spherical earth and the 'time of columbus flat earth' story is just a story.

This is true, but the point is...science is alwasy treated as fact, until proven otherwise.

You may have theories and the like, but eventually, everyone agrees on a certain outcome and relegates that outcome as fact. So, the example still holds true. At one point, it was accepted fact that the Earth was flat. That the Earth was the center of the universe, and that the Atom was the smallest particle. All regarded as fact, until proven wrong.

Science is fallable because it relies on humans, who are fallable, even the smartest of us.

Yes, but science accepts failure. It accepts change. New creationism does not. It will not accept any evidence that contradicts what was written BY A HUMAN centuries ago.

Therein lies the crux of the problem when arguing with new Earth types. They dont believe the Bible was written by man. They believe it is the word of God. I have no issues with being a Christian and also being pro science ( since thats what I am ). I do find it strange when people on either side cant see the other sides points relative to their disagreements.

Oh, I see the point. And I know what they believe.

What I'm saying is that there is no reason to argue here. If one side holds a belief that is by definition intolerant of any new evidence or new interpretation, any argument is completely pointless.

So, there are people that think the Gospel according to Luke wasn't written by Luke? Or that Luke was just transcribing what God told him and he just misinterpreted? :D

Nah, thats only for people who believe in a literal interpretation of the bible. There are plenty of people like that but the majority of Christians arent like that. Any sane person can see the validity in science and my faith ( how I FEEL ) leads me to the conclusion there is a God. The 2 are not mutually exclusive.

Absolutely there are. These people believe that God divinely inspired these people with his own words to write Gods account of things. Thats what new Earth people believe anyway.

Strong point.

If others have faith in a different religion they are sinners or freaks.

I was born and raised Christian, but find this statement extremely hard to believe or endorse.
