Whoa.... Why the fuck did I turn that on?

On a related note, I'm fairly sure that 90% of the Politics Board of the SportsHoopla will give this debate to Ken Ham.

How to sum up this debate.

How do you solve this (insert complex scientific problem) here?

Nye -- You can't. We need to test it. We need to learn more.

Ham -- It's in the Bible.

Hamm is quack. The politics board is surprisingly almost all pro science.

Odd. That surprises me given their dedication to the GOP.

I think there are a lot of Catholic Repubs there ala Bill Cunningham. They believe in God and evolution. Convenient, really.

most of the Christians that believe in evolution are American. it's the failure of the American school system, people hate reading, listening, and processing information (thinking)

What? Are you saying that believing in evolution is a failure?

I somehow twisted the words up.

lol

the failure is that young people aren't required to understand what they are learning. they copy the answers out of the back of the book, they (not all of them, but...) have teachers that no longer give a shit. Therefore they can go on believing whatever nonsense they have to in order to keep their religious cliques happy.

Believe it or not, there are religions that believed in evolution and the "big bang" theory well before the big bang theory was ever developed.

Ask them about global warming and then you'll find out how pro-science these guys really are.

It took me some looking to see what the global warming argument was really all about. Climate change has been happening since the earth was formed. the earth cools and the earth warms. I don't think political scare mongerers know that when they start screaming about it, the problem with the current trend is that it doesn't match the pattern of previous warming cycles, due to the human influence.

of course, if you think the earth is 6000 years old, then it's all nonsense to you.

Hate to break it to you, but there are quite a few scientist out there who believe it is well within the realm of possibility.

Not that I care one way or another, but just sayin'...

The thing with science is, everything is true until it's not.

Earth is flat...oops.

Earth is center of the universe...oops.

Atom is smallest particle...oops...

Today's quack theory could be tomorrow's commonly accepted answer. If you are a true scientist, you can never have a closed mind about possibilities.

Those were all intuitions that science CORRECTED. Just as it corrected the ridiculous notion that humans lived with dinosaurs.

I honestly don't understand why religious folks get so up and arms about this stuff. There are billions of people that are religious that don't deny findings from science. The director of the NIH is a devout christian. Nobody said you had to give up your faith to believe in science.

Yes, but I'm just saying that at one time, these were all accepted as facts. Thus, everything is true until it isn't true any-longer.

Also, I agree. You can believe in God and still believe in science. Now, I don't know that I believe that the world is only 4-6K years old...but, in anycase it doesn't alter what I believe.

Also, there are some things out there where archeologist and scientist can't exactly explain what they've found, and it does relate to the possibility that Humans were around when Dino's were around.

Such as: that they have temples built around 1200 AD that have pictures of what look like stegosauras, and/or other dinosaurs.

Also found were Incan burial stones als depicting dinosaurs on them, dated roughly between 500-1500 years old. These were found in the 50's, what makes them special is not just the drawings found on the stones, but speficially, a depiction of a saurpod with conical dermal spines along its back. This is something that was not known until 1992. I'm guessing that the Inca's didn't exactly have Indiana Jones digging up dinosaur bones to make these pictures.

Now, does this mean that they co-existed?

Who knows. But it's fun to talk about, as long as you have an open mind and are willing to debate about it.

That's the problem right there. Very few people have an open mind these days..about any topic.

Exactly right. Unfortunately, there are ignorant people on both sides of the debate that only one or the other can be right.

Also, things like the world is only 6000 years old is silly. It's beyond proven fact that the world is at LEAST billions of years old. 6000 is some people's own interpretation of the Bible. But from there people start making outlandish claims like science is false or that there is no God because this one person's interpretation of one religion's texts is that the world is only 6000 years old.
