As the resident Coyote fan on this board, all I can say to you is: it truly sucks to be us. Every day is miserable. Every day we're staying and by night we're not.

It's been like this for two years. You bring friends to a game and they love it. They come back they buy more tickets, but then another headline article "Coyotes to Winnipeg" and all of a sudden the momentum dies again. The game can and will grow here, but it will not succeed with a lousy owner and shitty product.

I'm a reasonable person, I've lived across the U.S., spent time in South America and Europe. But the tone of Canadians across the internet and in person has been such that I've been finding myself cursing our neighbors to the north. The people I've talked aren't interested in sharing the game, just mocking fans, who are just as loyal as they are, but happen to live in a more challenging market (i.e. a market with a LOT more competing for the sports dollar).

In closing, I've done my due diligence. Hell, I did a bit of investigative reporting (Talking With The Goldwater Institute's Clint Bolick - Five For Howling). NO ONE is looking out for Coyotes fans interests. So, have your laughs, but remember at the end of the day, it's a hell of a lot harder to be a Coyote fan dealing with all of this bullshit, then it is to put your feet up, click on the game and know that if they lose hell, there will be another season and that you'll be able to tell your son about the time when YOUR father brought you to a game.

Well more so than it currently is. Trust me, I live in LA, and I constantly hear people scoff when the words NHL or Hockey is mentioned.

I know a fair number of people from Phoenix, and in last years playoffs, as well as recently this year, 1) you start to see Phoenix Coyotoes facebook status pop up, and people from Az start to talk about them.

Phoenix got hammered by the housing bubble, and the team has sucked for the vast majority of their tenancy in the city. Give them a chance to support a winner for a few years- I think it will do well. There's an awful lot of sports fans that can be reached in that market, but as I said, 2) most on this board would prefer to have he NHL watched by PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY BUY TICKETS and not much else.

1) That won't pay the bills.

2) That has been fixed.

Sorry, loyalty as a fan means showing it with your wallet. As a fan of the team, you must be frustrated but I would hardly cast the blame on Canadians. If your neighbors would pony up to see more games instead of watching other sports that they are more interested in, there would be someone who would be a suitable candidate to own the team without taking a bunch of taxpayers money.

sorry your losing the team hckyfn15. but I think they have lost enough money for a long enough time that its done. Im sure the Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordique fans feel your pain most. I remember when those teams were moved. there was nowhere NEAR the amount of effort from the NHL to save them as they are doing for the Yotes. this is NHL money running the team and it only hurts the league more having it in Phoenix.

you say that it can work there with the proper owner. well not one proper owner has come to claim this sweetheart of a deal for a NHL team so Im thinking its too risky for them.

im from canada and I do not laugh at this happening. I want this league stronger on both sides of the border. if the NHL moved this team to a US market and it worked there I would be just as happy. but Winnipeg is ready to take it the most and they have a building, owner and fan base READY AND frothing at the mouth to get the NHL back in a rabid market. if this happens the USA will still have 23 other NHL teams. t

he thrashers, islanders, and panthers may be looking for new addresses soon enough as well. should those teams just continue to exist in markets that are not working and bleed money? the saddest part is the Isles franchise is a 4 time Cup winner and one of the most talented franchises of the NHL ever in the 80s and look at them. they should probably be moved if they cant get the new arena. of those 3 its probably the only team that should be saved. the Thrashers and Panthers should just contract and spread the players out across the league to make it even stronger.

I do feel bad for the Phoenix hockey fans. It has been handled poorly by the league from the get-go.
Bottom line for me is that there just aren't enough of you to support a franchise. It's been 14 years. Is it fair that the tax-payers fund the continuing losses? Is it fair that the profitable teams fund the losses? I'm not so sure, when there are other markets (yes some in Canada) that are clamoring for a team, and when there are other potential owners who can AFFORD the team. I honestly do feel bad for the fans.... but it is NOT working.

full disclosure: One of the first games I ever saw as a kid was in the Winnipeg Arena.

it is great that youre a coyotes fan and you sincerely care but unfortunately the numbers show you are part of a scarce group ... I understand what youre going through ... I emotionally and financially bought in to the Vancouver Grizzlies when they were here. The team got ripped from us because of a 60 cent dollar and the commissioner and US media then went on to rip our fanbase and city saying that we didnt have a high basketball IQ and didnt support the team (when in our 6 years of existence our average attendance was 1000 higher than what the average attendance in memphis has been - while we had to watch a team amass a record of 101W and 359L)

the coyotes are a franchise that havent cracked the top 20 in attendance in the past 10 years ... how many millions do they need to lose before we come to the realization that the current state of the franchise is not economically viable

having said all this, there was a market for hockey when the jets first moved to Phoenix ... IT WAS IN PHOENIX ... the situation now is untenable ... the team is in a municipality that no one seems to want to drive too and whose population isnt built up enough to support the team on its own. It was a pure real estate play by Ellman when he wanted to build the arena in glendale. His ultimate goal was to build the shopping mall and the residential developments. Are we supposed to wait a generation for Glendale to become a community with the population to support an NHL team. Im not an urban planner but how could the NHL let its teams build these expensive arenas in towns like Glendale, Sunrise Florida and even Kanata Ontario. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. At this point how do they overcome having this building in a town people dont mind driving to 16 Sundays a year but have trouble getting on the freeway on a tuesday evening in December

I apologize if Im excited by the possibility of Winnipeg getting a team back ... truth be told ... I hated those fuckers when they were in the league and did battle with the canucks in the late 80's early 90's ... but that was a market with so much passion and a storied history for hockey and I havent seen any of that from Glendale. Those are the fans that had 10000 people come out to Portage and Main the day they signed Bobby Hull to a WHA contract. The people of Winnipeg are alot like me and the people in my city. They bleed hockey so I feel an affinity for them. Come to think of it, should I really be apologizing for this.

I wanna share the game ... problem is the majority down there dont seem to care in my eyes.

I'm not blaming Canadian fans for the problems. The myriad of problems are not their fault. I'm saying my attitude has unfortunately for the most part changed towards them. They come into our building, laugh at our fans and when we try to talk on the fan boards we do have, they come there and mock us.

But to blame them for the ownership issues. No, not their fault. Could their antagonistic attitudes have something to do with a lot of ex-Coyote fans now? I don't know, that's just been my experience.

I do blame the NHL, Jerry Moyes, The City of Glendale and to some extent the Goldwater Institute for my current predicament. All of them can die in a proverbial fire.

And if the Coyotes do move I want to make clear, HOCKEY has not failed in Arizona, the NHL (and every fucker involved in this fiasco) has failed hockey in Arizona.

As one of the first generations proud to graduate their Arizona high school as Captain of my hockey team, hockey will be alive and well if I have anything to do with it.

OK. You don't like Canadians anymore. I get it.

You know what I don't like? Watching 23 NHL players rot in an environment that, outside of you and about 5000 others, doesn't give two shits about hockey and costs ticket-buyers in other markets money.

Fourteen years is WAY too far into the process to be saying things like " the sport will grow here" or "we just need a winning team".

I'm a Canadian and I wouldn't laugh at a fan of any team other than the Leafs, but the situation with the Coyotes has been a joke for more than a year.

Sharks, I was born in San Jose. I'm guessing I'll be pretty bitter for a long good while.

The last five years were the issue, to categorize the Coyotes entire tenancy in Phoenix as a failure is ignorant.

Can't say I'd blame you.

First you lose your team and then you have to cheer for the Sharks to win the Cup? :frusty:

honestly I would say the only markets clamoring for a team are in canada
has someone stepped forward in KC to say ... we're here give us a team

the only two clamoring loudly have been Hamilton and Winnipeg.
others I have heard about, PQ, North T.O., KC, Vegas - I have no idea how serious any of them are.
just didn't want to turn it into a Canada Giveth and Canada Taketh Away scenario.

A good franchise builds a base. There were some good years, but a good fanbase doesn't just disappear.

I may be wrong about this (let me know if I am) but I don't see a whole lot of public outcry over the team potentially leaving.
