been there done that

Waltons daughter and son in law owned the Blues didnt they? They wanted to move them to China and pay players $0.0001 per hour

That was one of the less-wealthy Wal Mart heirs.

They need to aim higher and go for the big dogs.

(OK, I had actually forgotten about that, way to screw up my snarky comment, jerk.)

the only reason I remember is because the son in law (Bill Laurie) wanted to buy the Vancouver Grizz and move them to St Louis before the Walton daughter closed her check book and put his nuts back into her purse

Goldwater is pretty hardcore ... contacting bond underwriters, bond rating agencies and potential large instutional investors of bonds and warning them that they would sue

I counted 3 times that Bettman was asked what he thought The Goldwater Institutes motivation was if not to protect taxpayer interests.

all he said was he didnt know

ok i get that glendale is in a no win situation and they cant lose the arenas anchor tenant

but what kind of anchor tenant is this? they draw tumbleweeds ... are they trying to say these few fans are keeping the municipalities economy afloat

a jobing.com arena without the NHL doesnt have to be a white elephant ... case in point winnipeg ... NO NHL and in 2008 the MTS centre was the 13th busiest arena in North America

7/11 - Winnipeg leads North America in per capita sales of Slurpees.

You mean that's currently not the case?!?

Well more so than it currently is. Trust me, I live in LA, and I constantly hear people scoff when the words NHL or Hockey is mentioned.

I know a fair number of people from Phoenix, and in last years playoffs, as well as recently this year, you start to see Phoenix Coyotoes facebook status pop up, and people from Az start to talk about them.

Phoenix got hammered by the housing bubble, and the team has sucked for the vast majority of their tenancy in the city. Give them a chance to support a winner for a few years- I think it will do well. There's an awful lot of sports fans that can be reached in that market, but as I said, most on this board would prefer to have he NHL watched by family and friends and not much else.

Hey if you want the NHL to be laughed at as a niche, regionally followed game... then move them back to Winnipeg.

Who the fuck cares what joe shmo casual sportss fan in LA thinks about hockey ... I'm very much past that

-ll take winnipeg jets over team likes the glendale coyotes and the sunrise panthers (how's that for fucken. Niche markets) that are losing 20 30 or 40 million per year

That's more laughable to me

That we can actually have those abortions in this sport and league that I love

Now that's uncalled for, buddy...San Jose has a loyal and passionate fanbase that fill the Shark Tank game in and game out. I wish we could say the same for the Coyotes.

It's not the fans fault that there are so many seats in the Arena.

It's funny to me that two of the main criticisms of the NHL are that it is a regionally niche league and that the tv ratings are terrible. As long as the product on the ice is great, the games are entertaining, and the players are getting paid, I don't give a hoot. What does bug me somewhat are revenues generated by successful teams continually going to a sinkhole in the desert because a commissioner is too pigheaded to admit that he made a mistake putting the team there in the first place.

I have no problems with the NHL trying to get into a new market... but moving the team from Winnipeg was below the belt.

It made sense (in a soulless greedy bastard sort of way) when there was no salary cap and the US dollar was much higher than the Canadian dollar. But what now? Winnipeg deserves its team back, and if a few Phoenix fans have to 'suffer', so be it.

I don't rememeber that there was so much fuss when the Grizzlies moved from Vancouver.

The Vancouver Grizzlies were a National Basketball Association team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Grizzlies were part of the NBA's 1995 expansion into Canada, but poor attendance (largely due to the team's poor play) caused the franchise to move to the United States; the team currently is known as the Memphis Grizzlies.

Oh no! How dare they move a basketball team from Canada to the US, where basketball actually matters!

Gary Bettman press conference from Phoenix before the game tonight ... look for him to crush Winnipegs spirits

Of course he will. He can't admit he was wrong.

This could help the NHL, the city of Winnipeg, the city of Phoenix/Glendale (in all probability) and the rabid hockey fans in Winnipeg. Yet, Bettman will do ANYTHING to stop putting the team back in it's rightful place. :painkiller:
