according to the playoff machine (espn)

if:
Bengals beat Philly and Pitt, but lose to Ravens
and
Pitts beats Dallas, but loses to Cleveland
and Jets beat Chargers, Chargers, Buffalo, and Tenn

Then Jets steal it away.
of course.... This will never happen, unless they start Tebow and miracles rain down from the football heavens once again, and Ryan has already made it clear he'd rather watch Sanchez throw multiple Ints than change the offense around for an injured Tebow. That team is batshit crazy, they almost make us look normal.

So pretty much I'd have to add the condition that the Jets lose a game to the 2nd scenario.

We still control our own destiny up to this point, so none of that matters. We just have to win games. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are playing like crap, even though both are possible playoff teams, they are the ones we have to beat, if we can't beat them, does it really matter in the playoffs?

I still want a winning record, but we need to beat Pitt and Baltimore, just to regain some respect from them, and to get that monkey off our young guys back, letting them know, we can beat these teams, now lets play with more confidence.

Essentially the playoffs for the Bengals start now. We'll see how they respond. The next few games will be a good indicator of the character of this team.

you can say what you want about the current Carson Palmer. The year his leg got torn to pieces, he was good enough to get us to a super bowl. The team we already beat twice won the damned show. up until he got snapped, we were the best team in football, not Pittsburgh, and we already proved as much. Its a fact.

Now, what the Bengals are going to have to decide the next few seasons is, is Andy Dalton good enough to get us through the playoffs? With enough help.. he maybe, but he still needs to continue to improve imo.

Except for the fact that Palmer didn't beat the Steelers twice that season. They handed us our ass in the first game at PBS that year.

Indy also handed us our ass..... Our defense was horrendous - We were fortunate to get a lot of turnovers that season, but a good quarterback or good running game could give us some issues. Yeah, it would have been nice to see what would have happened without the injuries, but try to remember that Marvin was the coach of that team and he would have found a way to fold under the pressure regardless of who was under center.

oh well. I guess I could have researched it better.

even when we're awesome, we suck.

my point was still... in the next few seasons, we need to decide if Andy Dalton can take us to the show.
of course... the status quo in Cincinnati is lets see how many times we can get into the playoffs by the skin of our ass.

Indy didn't really hand us our ass. That was a shootout for the ages. Unfortunately though, I agree they were the better team. Our defense that season was horrible, but they were very opportunistic taking chances jumping routes when they had a chance because they knew they could rely on the offense to have their back. Against Manning you weren't going to get those mistakes the defense would normally capitalize on. Our offense would have had to be near perfect to have a chance against them with that defense.

I would have said the playoffs started for the Bengals last week, and so far they've flopped. Just because the Steelers decided to flop too allowing us to effectively 'reset' the counter, doesn't make it excludable.

Dropped passes, inaccurate passes, coaching blunders left and right are very indicative of things we've seen in the past and the character of this team. Nothing new here. Lucky for them the Steelers gave them a boon and they have another chance.

thanks for refreshing my memory.

yea, basically our offense made like only one mistake the whole game, and that was enough. that was frustrating.

NFL Power Rankings, Week 15: New England Patriots at No. 1 - NFL.com

The Cincinnati Bengals had plenty of chances Sunday, but still lost to an emotionally drained football team in the Dallas Cowboys. Moreover, the 'Boys were playing with only five starters on defense at one point during the game. The Bengals just couldn't capitalize. Andy Dalton had plenty of time to throw, but couldn't do anything with it.

...

whoa. when you put it that way.
hell yea, we're right to be pissed.
