I did not hear that at all about Diggs this time  . Where did you hear that? That would be really disappointing if true.

Hopefully Diggs is playing for his 2026 and 2027 salaries this year both from a quality of play and an effort perspective. But, with Dallas coaches and the Jones Boyz, we know that seldom if ever happens with young big names. If they take CB at 12 that will be, as they say, a shot across the bow (or maybe even a kick in the balls). Moving forward with Bland and a young CB would be a nice way to set us up going forward and using Diggs salary to pay for Bland would make it very cap friendly as well. Also, Diggs would be a guy we could trade for a decent draft pick next year and wouldn't just need to cut which would make it a double benefit.
You're right about a trade being for the best, though if they couldn't make a deal they might outright cut him. I heard Broaddus talking about him this time. Obviously, Diggs boned it up last time, and Broaddus was talking about how while Diggs has been following more of the Cowboys plan for him instead of his handlers this time, the difference in commitment and work effort between Overshown and Diggs was pretty stark.

The Cowboys rave about how Overshown works as hard rehabbing his devastating knee injury as any player they have ever have. He tore the ACL, MCL and PCL and has gone from original prognosis of missing all last season to now possibly making it back in the first month of the regular season. You hear the exact opposite about Diggs. The team was very upset with how he rehabbing his last injury and theres whispers out there thay it's the same thing all over again this time. I think if the Cowboys spend #12 on Will Johnson or on Barron then Diggs may be a cap casualty next summer
Overshown was the 2nd best defender on the defense last year IMO. The instincts a speed and you could tell he knew what was going on. Very smart player and I love the enthusiasm and confidence he brings

I think had the kid never been injured, he would be an all pro level player by next year. The kid is special. If he can get healthy and gain a little experience, he is a total game changer for the defense. He also shows what we have been missing not having a dynamic linebacker the last 20 years. I'm not talking a rush LB/edge like Micah/Ware but a true LB. We had a great one for a while in Sean Lee, but not one with this kids ability

I admit I was a little skeptical about him going into last season. From the get go he was flying around the field making all kinds of crazy plays

If he had not got injured he likely would have filled up the stat sheet with several more sacks, tackles and splash plays. He was that good.

I felt sick for him when he got hurt again.

We have really been ravaged by injuries, and what's crazy is that it has been younger guys. If we could go into a season knowing that Micah, Osa, Overshown, Diggs and Bland were all 100% healthy and good to go...you would really only be 2-3 players away from a great defense. Get a DT that is a run stuffer that can keep our smaller D from just getting ran over. Get a safety that can ballhawk. Losing JLew really hurts in the slot, maybe they can turn someone around. Problem is we are really top heavy. Take away a star or two and the holes are craters

Started 15 games in 4 years. One of the biggest problems for the Bengals is Joe Burrow getting crushed weekly. Sounds like a scrub, err, another good offseason addition for the Cowboys

Worst case he plays everything but C in camp. Good position flex for PS if we don't have any young guys to put there. Lord knows we've given enough chances to Waletzko at this point...

Yeah, Waletzko and Josh Ball were dude i never understood taking up a roster spot. There's just no way.
I heard something Pat Kerwin said that made a lot of sense, he said sometimes you go out and sign a vet lineman or two like we have, even if you don't think they'll make the final roster, just so you can get a good evaluation of Joe Milton in the preseason. You want to see how he runs the offense and does with progressions, not just run for his life while the Waletzko's and Balls are manning the tackle spots

Ball and Waletzko must not be very highly thought of. They been signing a lot of offensive lineman in FA.

This team is telegraphing what they are doing though when it comes to the draft. Some team probably tries to trade up to get in front of Cowboys to take a wideout. All signs point to the Cowboys going WR in round one. They better have a plan B especially if they trade down.

I think that kind of doubt sometimes springs from having to take something because of need. Our WR room past Lamb is probably the worst in the entire NFL, or right there at it. There are some good WR options that should be available at 12, but i really hate going into a draft where we are blocking things off except for WR and maybe CB with the first pick

I think the OC and OL coach watched tape of the bottom of the roster OL guys who have been hanging around for a while and told everybody that they need to all be gone. They could have asked the fans because most of us knew that a year or two ago! We all know this team just clings to its own players like a high school girl. Even the crappy players just come back year after year after year. They learned nothing from Parcells telling them to churn the bottom of the roster

Jerry mumbles today about working on some big trades while Gilmore stops by the Star for a visit.

saw this tonight...IF Diggs were traded AND designated as a post June 1 trade, Dallas saves about $9.6 million on the cap.

Some pre-draft fun even if not likely or reasonable or not even smart :D :

Two names being whispered about as potential trade targets, in addition to all of the WRs we hear, are Jalen Ramsey and Jaire Alexander. Personally I'd take both over Diggs even though older and not long term solutions, but you need to trade or cut Diggs if you trade for one of them in a cap world I would think. Maybe not this year but by next year. You can't pay Diggs and then give Bland the contract he will surely command and also be paying one of those two all at CB. I guess you could put it off until next year though. Play whomever you trade for and Bland week 1 and then put Bland in the slot when Diggs comes back because Bland is probably at least as good in the slot as he is on the outside and then cut or trade Diggs next year to pay for Bland, but by then Alexander or Ramsey would be looking for an extension as well. One of the upsides of this is we solve CB without using a prime pick there.

Funny thing is that this team has the ability to solve most of our holes via trade if they are willing. We know there are now WRs, RBs and CBs available. OL and DL seem to be the two huge holes that you aren't going to be able to solve via trade based on who teh rumors have as available. Works fine for me because if we want to turn in to a contender THIS YEAR we need to be very aggressive. Best OL round 1 will probably be BPA. Best DT round 2 or 3 very well could be BPA. Plus Ol' Jerry has been leaking talk of the trenches which I love. With our cap space we could trade for the other spots. Problem is we only have the draft capital to do a couple of these things not all of them. I'm not sure what teams would want for these vets in a trade. Trading for a RB with the depth at the position this year in the draft probably doesn't make sense.

Draft OL (OSU OT), RB (OSU RB or Johnson), DT (Collins?) or flip flop DT and RB
Trade for one of the CBs (package of later picks plus maybe next years 4th?)
That leaves us a hole at WR but a much better team. But damn is that hole at WR huge.

Or Sign Gilmore and use your trade to get your #2 WR then the same draft as above. Helps fill your issue at OL, RB, DT, WR and CB. I really would love to see this kid Butler play at least half a season when he gets healthy and see if he is the player I think he may be at CB and we have the kid from Mia we traded for to kick around as a depth piece.

Shavon Revel makes a ton of sense in round two. Lot of potential. Has the size and speed to start for a long time. He coming off that injury and we know how they like to gamble on this type of player in round 2
