I came up with a total of 68 football players on scholarship at Boise State who are possible returners for the 2020 season. HOWEVER ................four of them MAY or MAY NOT be back for 2020. And one of the four is virtually guaranteed to not be back. Those four are:

1. STUD - Curtis Weaver -2020 RS Senior - Most likely will be entering the NFL draft next spring

2. LEFT TACKLE - Ezra Cleveland - 2020 RS Senior - May be back - May enter NFL draft

3. STUD - Sam Whitney - 2020 6th Year Senior - He missed ALL of the 2019 season and he was NOT included in the Senior Day festivities 2 1/2 weeks ago. Which tells me he is going to petition the NCAA for a 6th year of eligibility.

4. NOSE TACKLE/DEFENSIVE TACKLE - Emmanuel Fesili - 2019 4th year Senior - He has played in only 4 games this season. If he plays this week or in the Boise State bowl game he will NOT be able to return.

I read a post on another Boise State forum which mentioned that RS Senior Safety Evan Tyler - whose career at Boise State has been filled with injuries - is likely to also apply for a 6th year of eligibility. His RS Freshman season (2016) he started the first three games of that season but then suffered a season ending knee injury. In 2017 he suffered yet another knee injury in pre-season and did not play in any games that season. He has played in 20 games since then - 10 games in 2018 and 10 games this season (so far). Given his 2016 and 2017 seasons I would have to believe his petition for a 6th year would be a slam dunk. But one never knows when it comes to the NCAA.

CORRECTION - I got the "started the first three games" in 2016 from his Bio on BroncoSports.com however after checking that out he actually started only the first game of the 2016 season against Louisiana Lafayette. He did play in two other games that season - Washington State and Oregon State - before suffering a season ending knee injury. Those were the first three games in the 2016 season (La Lafayette, Washington State and Oregon State).

So the TOTAL POSSIBLE returning scholarship players for 2020 is at 69. However that is almost certainly going to be 68 when Curtis Weaver announces his intention to enter the NFL draft later this year. IF that number stays at 68 that would mean Boise State would have 17 scholarships to give out to 2020 new recruits. And there are currently 12 verbal commits.

However - that does NOT include the annual attrition that always occurs. I did a quick review of the guys on the roster this year who contributed very little (not including the true freshmen of course) and I can pinpoint NINE players who didn't play much this season. Starting with a RS Junior offensive linemen who has been at Boise State for four years now and in that time he has PLAYED in a total of ONE game (this season).
