The Sens got lucky with Cowen. He was projected to be a top 5 pick going into the season & then the injury bug struck.

The 2008 and 2009 drafts were weird for the Sens. It seemed like Murray was hell bent on building the D. Moving up to take Karlsson in 2008 and taking Cowen over MPS in 2009. I love both moves now of course.

For better or worse the current Sens management team is big on going for guys who may have fallen because of injuries in their draft year. Cowen, Stone, Puempel, etc. are all pretty good examples.

Hopeful this means they'll somehow be drafting Morgan Reilly this year.

Whether it's MPS or PRV, he's seems destined to remain in OKC...

At the draft a lot of folks were comparing him to Hossa Dash.

Too bad the Oilers draft team failed to read the first name Marcel after that. :bowl:

Well Grigorenko should definately be your guy then. He had Mono & there are concerns he might sign with a team in the KHL who's new GM is Sergei Fedorov.

Say no to Russians!

(I'm not racist, it's just bad business)

Twenty bucks on Shero taking a d-man in the first round.

That's probably where he'll go, but he strikes me as more of a 'best player on the board' type. Craig Patrick always was..

Shero has the same philosophy; it just always seems to be a d-man. Which is fine with me. We seem to effortlessly develop d-man, but can't do anything with offense to save our lives. Let's just keep developing d-men for the rest of the league and turn those into Neals.

I'm still pissed about this draft because I couldn't get tickets. Apparently sinking $2000+ into this team every year isn't worth a free fucking draft ticket for day one.

I couldn't believe that the Maple Leafs passed on Cowen in 2009. When he was still there at #7, I was thinking to myself that with Cowen and Schenn on the blueline, the Leafs were on their way to getting a solid D corps and finally getting into the playoffs. It didn't help matters that they passed on Cowen to take Kadri. I literally started laughing.

I can't remember if the Leafs went off the board to select Kadri, to be fair (reported?) he did put up some good numbers with the Knights.

/always dangerous when picking players from stacked teams though.
