JJM, your comment here possessed me to comment on some adversity I'm facing right now. My brother passed away about 40 hours ago. He pretty much drank himself to a premature grave. He was 62. He had been facing depression for many years and drank heavily a lot of the time. He left behind two boys in their early 20s and other family members who loved him dearly.

I myself am devastated. His boys and the rest of my family tried our best to get him to quit drinking, but he was too self absorbed in depression to get help.

His family was at his bedside at the hospital to see him pass away peacefully.
