Most interesting to me is the comment regarding the Griff/Kyle relationship being very good. I tend to trust Cooleys take on things, even when it comes to speculation.

Could very well be true. Shanahan is a terrible communicator and when he sours on someone, they never get a second chance. Having said this, Robert didn't endear himself to Mike, either. After the seattle game, he made some statements that called Mike and the coaching staff out to an extent. Then his Dad followed it up and explicitly called them out. Mike does not like nor accept that, no matter how big a star you are. Then he starts looking for things.......like maybe hanging out with the owner too much?

Do you realized that you just described a coach who could never connect with todays players??? I believe that time will prove that out as Mike has now entered into the great abyss called "Former NFL Head Coach"

What we have seen so far is a QB more than willing to bask in the lime light when things are good, but will start pointing fingers when things are not so good. So lets stop treating him like an innocent victim in all this. Shanahan handled it poorly to a degree, but so did RG3 and Snyder. Bottom line is Griffin is paid to do a job. No one says you have to connect with your boss to be good at your job. And my bet is, when we find the coach that "connects" with Griffin, it will be worse for him not better. In ten years when Griffin is done in the NFL, Kyle Shanahan will likely still be coaching some where.

Yep I agree this is all possible. Of course it paints Shanahan in a bad light and I believe he made mistakes. I didn't like how he handled Josh Morgan or Fred Davis. In the end Robert struggled mightily this year. Some due to injury, some due to his lack of experience as a pocket passer. I think Robert forced Shanahan's hand quite a bit in statements he made in press conferences. Mike should have talked to Robert instead of getting mad at him. It is why Mike had to go, Snyder isn't going and Griffin isn't going.

I listen to Cooley daily because I have an hour and a half commute on my drive home for work. I respect his opinion because he was there recently and knows what is going on. He has changed a lot as the season went on. He was so supportive of the team in the beginning of the year then he started calling out specific players. He agreed it was time to take Robert out for a few games because he was regressing so much. He said many times even after the mid point that the offense worked and was dynamic but the D and STs was costing the team. He waffles like everyone else.

My opinion hasn't changed, all three sides are responsible. QB, coach and owner. Hopefully going forward a new coach can help Robert be a better QB and return to the form we saw the first year. As Redskin fans we better hope that happens or it is going to be a long road.

Don't think its fair to say he could never connect with today's players, the majority of the players on the Skins supported him and wanted him to stay. Mike's problem is he doesn't know how to handle conflict and disagreement. If you do something that he disagrees with (Davis, Morgan, etc) he wants retribution. I'm also not sure what you mean by "todays players". This implies some sort of change in mentality from players a decade ago.....I'm not so sure.

You would too...if you knew as they do that nowhere else is there a starting job for them or job at all. You must take players who offer their support/positions like this with a grain of salt. I absolutely DO NOT agree with your premise that MS does not know how to handle conflict and disagreement it happens in every locker room from as far back as you want to go and into future locker rooms. His issues is that he comes from my generation and failed to adapt to the independence of succeeding generations. They are paid huge sums of money up front, have corporate endorsements, and have no issues publicly telling their bosses to go F themselves. They are acutely aware of their predecessors completely selling their bodies for the good of the team and understand that they are unwilling to face the same futures. You tell me.........players decade(s) ago had to earn the big contracts on the field, today a players signing bonus equals the entire life salary of those players. They take note of players like Earl Campbell, or Jim McMahon. They are acutely aware of players killing themselves or others due to brain injuries. Why would they not have a different mentality?

I agree......Griffin is paid to do a job.......but the game as structured today...... NOT a reckless and stupid job. There is a world of difference between what was considered normal in MSs heyday and now. The rules of the game alone has made players more acutely aware of what's being asked of them and what they are willing to do. It is impossible to ask a man to refrain from doing what was once a normal football act, and not expect him to consider why. Who knows ten years from now Kyle might be working as OC for Griffiin.

I agree in the sense that they are much more aware of the potential long term affects of playing this sport and probably act differently than their predecessors. But I disagree with the premise that coaches need to accept this notion that players can tell them to F off. Think Bellichek agrees with that notion? I don't care how much money they make, no boss will put up with that who wants respect in the locker room.

............And it wouldn't come to that if the coach realized that his BS won't be tolerated from jump. Players want honesty, they can handle it....but they quickly come to know a BSer and won't buy into anything that he has to say once realized. Relationships quickly deteriorate while that exact word may or may not be voiced the effect however is the same.

I actually agree.
