so is your point that with a superior qb the only stat he beats TM (who meanwhile has caught a pass from no franchise qbs except cousins and possibly Daniels) .09 more tds a game (not quite two more a season), and 1% better at catching passes than scary terry?

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

My point is he is worth paying for.

Yes, he compares well with TM. If you want to see how he performs without him, I showed you that as well. I also showed how he did as a number one WR without Burrow to the tune of 148 and a score.

I think at the least it will be 26 mil per . Now we have cap space but lately Higgins has been injury prone much like lattimore
The monetary cost is the primary reason why it was necessary to give up that 3rd round pick for him. He wanted 20 to 21M per season and that would have been an absolute bargain given the return in youth and talent.
Now that he's a pending free agent, that ROI goes down as mentioned in one of my previous posts.

i think 26 mil would have been the starting point after that 1st tag was applied . i also dont think a 3rd would bring him in for the bengals . i am not likely to favor giving up picks and pay the money when all i need to do is wait . and as discussed before it could have been only for a yr

C'mon man! We've been talking about this guy long before the Bengals applied the tag on him! There's a reason why I posted what he was asking for in a new contract, remember? ( similar to Mike Pittman jr.) Had this team been proactive the Bengals knowing or being reminded that they would lose him to free agency, would have jumped at a 3rd because that's better than a zero return, which they now must come to terms with as the season closes. A 3rd and a new contract in the 20 to 21M range for a 25 year old next level player (comparatively speaking) is a bargain anywhere in the league as applicable. What the dumb assed front office of the Bengals are trying to do is, price him out of possible free agent offers, thinking that few team will bid for his services in the 26 to 30+M range, and he'll accept their max offer in the range of 17 to 18M. They're wrong (unless there's collusion to curb WR salaries) This is bad business, a hallmark for them and now the rest of the league has to pay more for their ineptitude.

Whats the alternative to improving WR next year? Unless you're taking a WR in the first, not sure how we don't run into the same issues when Terry gets erased. We can't go into 2025 with this same situation and expect to win playoff games

Id absolutely hate to be in a war room with some of you guys, lol

Drafted: McLaurin was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the third round (76th overall) of the 2019 NFL draft.
In 2019, there was no alternative.
In 2020, there was no alternative.
In 2021, there was no alternative.
In 2022, there was no alternative.
In 2023, there was no alternative.
AND
In 2024, there is no alternative.
Signed..Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Jose' Feliciano and every other blind MF, who could see this from a mile away!

Sty most people knew he would be tagged . I sure as hell knew it . Why ? Because the bengals FO saw themselves as Super Bowl contenders. Taking a 3rd round pick is the same as the comp pick they would get for him so that is a non starter as a trade offer.

It all comes down to this , why give up high draft pick (s) and pay the salary when you can just pay the salary and get the picks ?

Getting or not getting tee Higgins doesn’t doom the team to eternal stinkdom . Filling the hole is the issue and how best to do it .

I have said we can’t fix all holes in one off season . We will have to live with this till next off season . The team felt CB was the bigger issue

No but signing Tee Higgins in year 2 of JD would help because JD is on a rookie contract and TM will be on his final year of his contract. It would also allow flexibility in the draft.

You are right but why trade for him in year one when you can sign him in year 2 and still have the resources ?

I understand your position, but mine was the better one! I know because there was a vote and you lost 1-0. :D
Looking forward, Washington has more than one hole in their WR room, they have two going into 2025. McLaurin likely will want an extension but 30 year old WRs typically are hitting that inevitable wall and don't generally get major new contract deals. Bottom line, they are going to spend a lot in draft capital and money filling these holes anyway.

If we could have done it this season, we would have beat the Steelers, no question. I also think we would have beat Dallas, little question. And I believe Philly would have been far different.

We would also have been able to sign him cheaper, thus carrying over more into future seasons.

Bidding war = likely paying more than his value as a free agent.

Well is he a legit number one wr ? We have cap space , but limited draft picks . We can go both or simply go after another guy

He would be here as pointed out when the topic was TM. TBH, I'm not sure that he's worth the cost now, I'll have to give it a lot more thought because the team will likely draft a WR anyway to become their WR1. We know Higgins is a terrific WR2!

I say Tee is worth market value. And if they draft a true WR1, fine. We have three studs for JD to throw to.

Or let’s at least see market value and how is out there.

I can't disagree with this strategy, the cost to get Tee is my only drawback now. We'll have to wait to see if Higgins has any interest in Washington and at what price. Btw: there has to be a decision on TM prior to the start of the 2025 season, perhaps a short-term extension if the two sides can work it out, or maybe trading him will be an option, although I'd be reluctant to part with the guy. It is probable that the Commanders will field 3 new receivers next year.
