It depends on what the fit is. It could just be a discretionary decision to say that the league minimum is the lowest contract you can offer. Right now, it looks like the intercept is negative, which clearly makes no sense, but if I do force the line through a point, it could significantly affect the higher salary players, which would not be desirable.

Of course, I still have 2/3 of the league to go through, so the fit might end up being forced through something around $550,000 anyway once all the data is in.

yeah i was trying to think logically whether the intercept would naturally be higher or lower than league min.
on the one hand, those $660-600k players DO actually have a point-per-game value, so the x-axis as zero points might not make practical sense.

it's been a hell of a long time since I have done any math of this sort, so I'm sstill just spit-ballin' here.

One last update before I post the actual equation (in its own thread, of course) and the analysis surrounding it, and this is it. I have just 12 teams left to analyze, and I'll probably finish up tonight since I have nothing else to do. Get excited. =P

And I thought the whole "nerd" thing was just an act for our entertainment...

As I suddenly have something to do, I likely will not finish up tonight. However, this project will likely be finished by tomorrow.

Also, I've noticed that the best trend fit is binomial, not linear, which I think is an interesting observation and consideration. I'll look at it again once I have all the data, but that's how it looks so far. Furthermore, if I fit a linear curve, the intercept is -.08. If I force the curve through .5 (an approximation of the lowest possible salary, somewhere between the verteran and entry level minimums) the slope reduces by 20%.

Just thought you'd want to know.

All kidding aside -- this is a really cool deal you're putting together Darkstone.

I'm very curious to see the outcome. :)

Thanks broseidon. It's as much for me as anyone else. I'm just posting it here for the glory.

Final update:

I'm on the last team. I'll have everything up in its own thread in about 20 minutes I'd say. It'll take a little while to decide between linear and polynomial plot (I'm leaning toward linear, despite a better fit from the polynomial, simply because a linear plot will be much easier to analyze, and I see no sense from a business standpoint to increase the salaries at any changing rate), compose and submit the post, and add all the analysis. Be ready.

SO let me get this straight. You know how much teams should be paying their forwards via PPG?
