loyalty is a good thing, don't get me wrong, but it's highly overrated in the world of sports and sports business.

You know what’s not overrated? Money. And the ability to do business in an income tax free state coupled with strategic use of LTIR to circumvent the cap. It’s the smart play.
If I’m Doug Ford I create a tax exempt zone for the Leafs and Raptors and maybe the Blue Jays( but definitively not the Argos) to level the playing field.

Everyone sets their own priorities, including AM34. People make life choices every day, including AM34.

Everyone sets their own priorities, including the Toronto Maple Leafs. People make life choices every day, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If the priorities and decisions are in sync, so be it. If not, you shake hands and move on.

As Doris Day sang, Que sera sera.

One thing that should be painfully obvious by now is that the team with the highest paid player(s) does not with the Cup. Yes you have to have top tier talent, but in the Cap era, paying the most is a recipe for failure. Which goes back to priorities and decisions......

I remember Theo Fleury back in the mid-to-late 90's opining about his former Flames teammates moving onto greener pastures with new teams saying something along the lines as "how may cars/tv/houses do you need?". A short time later, he finds himself with the Avs in Denver and then moves on to even bigger bucks with the Rangers.

That looks like it could have been filmed in Moscow in the late 80's.
We're in an absolutely awful place right now and leadership on every level do not give a fuck. We've sent over $8 billion in aid to Ukraine, not to mention however many more billions we send overseas to be squandered. We've got $18 billion for VW to build magic batteries. I wonder what $26 billion would do for housing & other social supports at home.

it actually terrifies me more if they actually did this. not because it went to where it should go but the people they put in charge would 100% certainly squander it by mis management, embezzle it or both.. god knows if they just built something they would not run it properly or think of what they need to do for the future to make it sustainable.

question I have for low income housing.

if you get a family in there, can they stay forever? do they have to show some means of trying to improve their financial situation? are there programs to help educate people with no disabilities to get better paying jobs or have chance at them? what is to stop someone from getting into a lower income home and just staying. I have seen an apartment downtown that is across from my buddies place that is low income assistance living. fuckers have patios bigger than some apartments I lived in and they have $1000 BBQs on them.

I just got (well my wife gave me a early Father Day's present) a new BBQ - We picked out a Char-Broil© London Drugs special, $349 on sale before tax.

I mean, the money that goes overseas is pretty much squandered as it is, at least it'll be squandered on home soil and at least some of it will make its way to people who actually need it.

Affordable housing comes in various shapes and forms, and yes some people grab it and live in it forever and keep their declared income below the income limits required for their space (ie: in Vancouver for BC Housing it's about $58k if you're in a 1 bdrm) and wind up with a pretty sweet spot in a desirable part of town. And some people abuse the fucking shit out of their units which enrages me to no end.

The thing is, I'd still rather there be some abuse but more people housed than have our streets look the way they do. There's a lot of problems exacerbating this but the one thing the federal government can control and adjust immediately to start addressing the housing shortage is not allow 600,000 + people into the country every year but they don't seem particularly interested in doing that.

Also, on below, not saying he's wrong but the CBA expires before a 3 year deal would and if the owners decide to fight for shorter max contracts that'll blow up in his face pretty easily (although if they shorten it to, say, 5 years, that's just an 8 year deal with extra steps and he still gets the money so...I dunno, whatever just start scoring playoff goals man).
