So that Bonino trade. :L

If Hextall gave up anything more than a conditional 7th round pick with the condition being : IF the Penguins win a playoff game. On top of the fact the Sharks retain at least 80% of his salary. This deal is totally useless because not only are they older, who does he really replace? We all know they aren't scratching Jeff Carter and the 4th line barely plays as it is. Poehling ( when healthy), Archibald and O'Conner are good enough. Hell I would argue at this point I doubt Bonino could replace Cagulia.

I’m totally baffled beyond whatever his reasoning was

Feels like Grier is a worse GM than Hextall... and I say that with great difficulty

Can we categorize this as a rare Hextall W?
Yeah that is hard to do. I truly think the deal last year to get Rakell might have been the top of the line for him.

Honestly I think the 5th round pick was even too much but if that is what the Sharks needed to get to retain salary then fine with it. Not like a 5th rounder will be playing on the Penguins anytime soon, unless they bring Simon back. :D

Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick. Maybe he can get Orpik out of retirement

This made me almost spit out a drink and I laughed out loud, @scoutyjones2

So the Pens centers are now 34, 35, 36, and 38. As the youngest, Bonino is technically part of a "youth movement" for the Pens' centers.

Maybe there is something we don't know. Are they getting tax breaks for some kind of adaptive skating program for seniors?

The best of the Internet on the Bonino trade from Pen's fans:

"Better double check the supply of Centrum Silver."
"Is he going to be a coach?"
"No Penguins for Old Men"
"Ron's running an old folks home instead of a team."
"I didn’t even know he was still playing!!"
"Instead of the boys of winter. It's more like the senior citizens of winter"
"I would’ve loved this... like 4 years ago"
"Weren't there are any 40-year old centers available?!?"

The 1967 Leafs who won the Cup were known as the "Over The Hill" Gang - These Penguins are the "Can't Make It Up the Hill" Gang :D
