Gee, the Oilers are really up against it cap-wise and all of a sudden, it looks like Kane may require surgery...Shocked, shocked I say.

any update on Drai re-signing?
I honestly don't see how they do it without some big moves. Currently 300k over cap with only 12 forwards 7 D signed (and Broberg and Holloway still unsigned now). Putting Kane on LTIR will save them 5m, but 2.5 of that next year goes to Campbell's buyout. With the raise Drai is probably wanting, they are going to have to sell cheap on someone, and no one is touching Nurse or Nuge. Those are guys Bowman usually acquires, not gets rid of.

Might be able to move Ekholm or Hyman, but no one is going to offer a lot knowing the corner he's painted into.

Holland really did a job there.

Offer sheet compensation for the Broberg contract is a 2nd round pick while it's a 3rd round pick for Holloway. As well, because they both signed offer sheets, neither Broberg nor Holloway can be traded for one calendar year.

Offer sheets signed by Broberg is 2 yrs, $4.580 mil AAV and for Hollaway is 2 yrs, $2.290 mil AAV

Isn't Peter Chiarelli currently employed by St. Louis?

Shamelessly stolen from another board...

Can’t believe Bowman just stood by and watched as his vulnerable team was taken advantage of.

In typical Oilers fashion, they're blaming Ken Holland (you know, the guy who is currently not the Oilers GM) for not locking up Broberg and Holloway earlier. Last I looked, it takes two parties to sign a contract and maybe both Holloway and Broberg didn't want to sign on the dotted line earlier this past season. Additionally, Jeff Jackson had plenty of time to sign Holloway and Broberg and didn't get it done. Also, plenty of speculation out there that Armstrong wouldn't have tended these offer sheets if Holland was still GM of the Oilers (apparently they have a pretty good relationship). It's great to think that Armstrong did this as a big FU to the Oil for hiring Bowman :D

If that played even an infinitesimal part in this, he is my favorite GM.

Someone should fuck with Cheveldayoff the same way.

Also, have to like how the Oilers seem to be having trouble finding a surgeon for Kane to have his surgery. Talk about cap shenanigans lol
