Stole this from another board and it's an excellent recap...

The sexual assault happened in 2010. Bowman went on to be the GM for 11 years after that. Won 3 cups. Went to the Olympics as GM of the USA Men's Hockey team. The guy flourished for over a decade knowing that he had destroyed the life of a young man, offered a glowing endorsement of the abuser who went on to assault a 16 year old boy in Michigan. Bowman had chance after chance after chance to come clean about this. Doing the right thing was an option for a very long time. He didn't go to jail. He just lost his job. Plenty of NHL GMs lose their job who did not bury a sexual assault allegation who never got a "second chance". The guy takes a sensitivity training course and he is all good? He should be no where near a hockey rink.

There seems to be quite a lot of outrage on social media today - It might be enough for the Oilers to rethink this hire.

even on their own Post on facebook the fans do not seem happy at all. going to be interesting to see how this plays out and how his press conference goes.

I contrast this to the Flames situation with Bill Peters who when they found out his disgusting racist remarks towards Akim Aliu (when they were both part of the Hawks organization in Rockford) and also his abusive treatment of players when with the Carolina Hurricanes quickly terminated his contract.

You see Edmonton, it is possible not to hire terrible people regardless of whether or not they have been cleared by the league.

You spelled David Staples wrong...

"Craig MacTavish. Zack Kassian. Evander Kane. Corey Perry. Stan Bowman. The Edmonton Oilers are the team of second chances. It started with Glen Sather and has carried on. It’s in the organizational DNA. I’m good with that."

In other Oilers news the team has completed a blockbuster five way trade that will see them acquire Michael McLeod and Cal Foote from the New Jersey Devils, Dillon Dube from the Calgary Flames, Alex Formenton from the Ottawa Senators and Carter Hart from the Philadelphia Flyers.

In return the Oilers will give up Roberto Luongo's contract, the rights to Chris Pronger and copyright rights for the Spittin Chicklets podcast. All three assets were acquired this morning. As part of the deal the Ottawa Senators will forfeit a first round pick. The Vancouver Canucks will incur a $3M/year cap penalty to be incurred in perpetuity and the Chicago Blackhawks will acquire a fruit basket and a top 5 pick within the next three years.

It appears that Stan Bowman is putting his stamp on the Oilers organization. -

Inheriting a ridiculous solid core

Yup, Dale Tallon was the architect of the team that won all those Cups, Bowman was just the GM in the right place at the right time.
