Maybe the Oilers just have lousy timing - Imagine if they would have had their three consecutive first round picks in '07 through '09.

2013 Nathan MacKinnon
2012 Nail Yakupov
2011 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2010 Taylor Hall
2009 Brayden Chien
2008 Luke Chien
2007 Kyle Turris
2006 Erik Johnson
2005 Sidney Crosby
2004 Alexander Ovechkin
2003 Marc-Andre Fleury
2002 Rick Nash
2001 Ilya Kovalchuk

let me take a stab at it

Actually, they could have had Kane in '07 but they won their last game of the season (a meaningless game) against the Flames and finished out of the lottery that year (back in '07, the bottom five teams were the only teams eligible to pick #1). That put Chicago into the lottery and they won it and selected Kane. The Oilers at pick #6 took Sam Gagner.

You're right. It's timing. If only there was a stud top-tier Dman available when they took ANY of those picks. Like, say someone who is currently 20 years old but viewed as a leader and on a seven game point streak. That could be JUST what they need.

:yahoo:

Bonus if he can hit a forward with a pass out of the zone right on the tape through FOUR opposing players. Across three lines and the width of the ice.

BUT WHERE DO YOU GET A GUY LIKE THAT? HOW?

I've said it before but it bears repeating - It's best when it's dripping with sarcasm.

The trick is that once you add a player like Kane, Stamkos or Tavares you make it a lot more difficult to get the #1 pick the next year. And the 3rd year becomes even more difficult.

I have faith in the Oilers ability to fail their way to a top pick under any circumstances.

"That’s about as bad as it gets for me... I have great sympathy. I understand. I respect their fans. But that's a bunch of bull crap for me… “You guys are in our room. You see the creed up on the wall. The one thing that stands out in big huge letters is I am never out of the fight. And whoever threw that jersey onto the ice, they're out. They've given up. They're a quitter. We don't want that here." - Dallas Eakins

Anaheim has 44 points at home, and 37 points on the road. The Oilers have 36 points total.

Matty, I'm also hearing that people caught chanting negative things about Lowe or the Oilers are being told to either stop it or they'll be ejected from the building. I know Edmonton is known as the Siberia of the NHL, but I didn't realize they were also employing Soviet types of bullying at Rexall Place.

Eakins has nobody to blame but himself for a second jersey being tossed onto the ice. Instead of trying to re-engage the first fan who threw his jersey with phrases such as "I'm as frustrated as he is" and "It's my job to fix this so that our fans can be proud of this team", he instead pulls out "That's a bunch of bullcrap" and "That fan is a quitter". Of course, it's no surprise considering the arrogance that flows from the top down in the Oilers organization.
