Many seem to think the 3rd Defenseman Lowe took in the 1st round Darnell Nurse 2013 will be a good player. Time will tell if the Oilers can develop him into the player many believe he can be. I'm really not sure. Marincin was supposed to be good. So was Musil. They still have time though.

Nurse will be. But if Lowe wasn't "challenged" his top D pair next year could be Ryan Murray and Nurse.

Plus the Jackets really wanted to shoot themselves in the foot with Yakupov. He could have swapped picks and gotten another asset to land Murray. Howson is just as smart as Lowe.

Basically John Muckler is an old fart is the reason. He was clueless. He:

1) Liked a good western boy like Wade. It didn't matter that Redden was soft as melted butter at that point. He was still Canadian goddam it.

2) Saw that Chara had just been schooled by the speedy Sabres forwards in the playoffs. He really didn't look good that postseason. Turns out he was injured. Muckler didn't think he'd be able to keep up in the "new NHL". He liked Redden's mobility more. :L

Basically Muckler was a dumbass. Many Sens fans could see the decline in Redden. Muckler just ignored it.

It's funny many Isles fans have told me at the time of the trade Chara really hadn't developed. I've told them Bullshit. I saw more than enough to know that he was going to be a special player. The reason Milbury traded him was money. His agent wanted a huge deal & the team apparently wasn't sure what they had or ownership told Milbury no to the contract demands.

That's why Howson is part of the Oilers scouting staff now. He's their to give Lowe advice.:D:

If Crosby suited up for the Oilers tomorrow night, how bad would they still lose by?

Oilers already pencilling in Ekblad...

MacTavish: (Aaron) Ekblad is the right-handed defenceman that seems like a book-end for Nurse. …There’s some good players. The type of player we need is a guy like Curtis Lazar, like that type of driver. He and Nurse are kindred spirits, they’re just good leaders and good foot soldiers, that’s the type of guy that we could use. We get Ekblad, that’s another big piece.

Edmonton Oilers have shot at centre like Sam Bennett or a d-man like Aaron Ekblad | Edmonton Journal

If they get the 1st overall pick for the 4th time in 5 years does Lowe survive? Would anyone else who's been in his position around the league still have their job? Edmonton isn't the city of champions anymore. It's the city where they have no choice, but to relive the glory days of a once proud franchise.

I honestly believe that as long as Katz owns the Oilers, Lowe will remain in some capacity. Hey, now that Messier is an advisor, it just allows Lowe to deflect blame to more people.

Katz must enjoy losing because with the people he's hired to run the team winning is obviously an after thought.

I think Katz enjoys making money, winning or losing probably doesn't matter all that much.

Hey!!! Lazar is Sens property. This is tampering. Please send your next two 1st round picks to Ottawa for this egregious offense.

Imo what katz cares most about is being able to tell his friends at the vancouver and kelowna yacht clubs that he is hanging around the likes of lowe, mact and messier and his son is handing out the jersey to his teams first overall draft choice (or that his son is making the pick)

#Oilers acquire forwards Steve Pinizzotto and Jack Combs from @FlaPanthers in exchange for forwards Ryan Martindale and Derek Nesbitt.
