Apparently, somebody didn't like Bob Nicholson's "There's something in the water" comment lol

It WAS a really strange thing to say.

Defeatist and also kind of absolving them from the blame.

And just kind of dumb. Cause that water ain't going away.

Maybe Katz should fly in some Evian water from France to fix the water, Kenny...

The Taylor Hall trade was bad, but at least Adam Larsson is a NHL defenseman (maybe not top 2, but certainly a 3-4 guy). The Griffin Reinhart trade was terrible though, I think the Isles couldn't close that deal fast enough.

The only deal that probably got done faster was 3 years for Koskinen by Koskinens agent

Man, who wants to hitch their wagon to this disaster?

/I know, I know there's only 31 (soon to be 32) jobs like this available
//Seattle is closer to the Cup than the Oilers

The right GM probably can turn this around in 2 years, even if they are in cap trouble.

-RNH has trade value. Take picks and prospects, the right picks and prospects, and that’s value for $6 mil.

-That would give them almost $20 million in cap space for next season. There are quite a few teams entering cap hell they could offer to help (take bad contract + good young player/prospect/picks).

-Hire a good coaching staff with expertise in development.

-Larsson will only have a year left on his deal after next season. He has value and the team will at best be getting up to “good” level by the time he hits his UFA year. Might be best to move him while he has term and a good contract.

The biggest issue is getting Katz & co. board, obviously, and I really don’t think there’s any chance they get on board with something like that. But they have the best player in the game, a couple of good defensive pieces, Drai is still very good and I guess goaltending is settled for a while lol. There have been much, much worse situations in the NHL in the past decade than what Edmonton’s in right now.

Plus there will be another lockout in 2 years to reset the balance of the league again.

Yes. I hope that Jarmo is all over this. Jackets picks this year will hopefully be low, but they could lose some prospects and not have it hurt if the return is RNH. Milano, Sedlak, Kukan, Carlsson and Wennberg. All Legit NHL talent (just with someone in their way in Columbus), and better than some of what Edmonton has.

Even better if we could snag Seth's brother too.

Again, Dubinsky could cause trouble both in the re-signing of Bob/Bread and being forced to keep him in the next expansion due to the NTC.

This is a match made in heaven.

And most of the vitriol is about the state they are in vs where they SHOULD be. Overall, it's not all that bad like you said. Certainly not pretty, but not dead in the water.

RNH has trade value - Agreed and the new GM should move him

McWonderful - Best player in the game is staying put unless he demands a trade (and that won't happen anytime soon)

Larsson - I would probably try to move him as well, he needs a fresh start

Drai - Still haven't seen much from him unless he's riding shotgun alongside McWonderful. I'm not saying trade him though, how many teams are ready to add 8.5 shmill?

Nurse - Pretty meh to me, the Oilers brass seem to like him though, so he's probably safe

Koskinen - Not the answer in goal, but they're committed to him for now, I guess (pretty expensive backup).

Rest of the team is just bad and not worth the bandwidth to discuss :D

One more thing - The Oilers as a team are slow, yes McDavid is probably the fastest skater in the league, but as a team, they play at a plodding pace. Whomever gets the fulltime GM gig needs to seriously improve the overall pace of play for the Oil.

They need to give up their 1st for Ryan Dzingel.

Seriously though I think Chia would have done it in desperation just to save his job. I was pretty sure it was going to happen and was pretty ecstatic know that a top 10 could fall in the Sens lap. Hell, if Connor hits a rut and misses 4-6 weeks it could be a top 3 pick pretty easily. Now, not so much. :pout:

I actually think Dzingel would be a great fit to play alongside McD.
