Much as I hate to see it, it seems like Stone actually wants to stay in Ottawa and they'll work something out but you have to think his agent is calling him everyday saying "seriously, it'll suck for a lot of reasons but Edmonton will give you a blank cheque to go play with McDavid".They need to give up their 1st for Ryan Dzingel.
Seriously though I think Chia would have done it in desperation just to save his job. I was pretty sure it was going to happen and was pretty ecstatic know that a top 10 could fall in the Sens lap. Hell, if Connor hits a rut and misses 4-6 weeks it could be a top 3 pick pretty easily. Now, not so much.
I actually think Dzingel would be a great fit to play alongside McD.
And Calgary got their guy anyway.
Vancouver chose the right London Knights player

It goes deeper.
The only trade Chia would have won in Edmonton and the Blue Jackets torched it by picking Dubois.

5. A final one on Chiarelli: In the fall of 2016, a few sources indicated he came close to a blockbuster at the 2016 NHL Draft, days before the Taylor Hall–Adam Larsson deal. Asked about it, he laughed but said he wouldn’t tell. Believe me, I tried. The Oilers had the fourth selection, snaring Jesse Puljujarvi after Columbus grabbed Pierre-Luc Dubois. There was a potential three-way that would have moved the Flames to third, the Blue Jackets down a spot and the Oilers to sixth. That obviously never happened.
Arizona GM John Chayka admitted the Coyotes were working on something with the Oilers to make sure they got Clayton Keller. (They succeeded, staying in the seventh spot.) There are two teams suspected to have taken big swings as well: the Rangers and St. Louis. New York did not have a pick until 81st, but, as Jeff Marek has said several times, loved Keller. The Blues were picking 26th. Someday, it will all shake loose.
TBH I think both reports are full of shit. What's the point of 3 teams going crazy trying to move up or down one position in what was already considered a stacked draft? So, had the Flames moved to third, would they have taken Tkachuk there? The Jackets could have had Dubois anyway and another asset? All for the Flames to get who they got?
Plus with all the talk about how bad Montreal wanted Dubois, could the Jackets have walked away with PK Subban? And also maybe Tkachuk or Keller?
Coulda been a crazy draft and the bald Finnish fuckwit just torched the whole thing.
