whats the going rate on compensation for hiring a coach fired yet still under contract to another team ?

Canucks got a 2nd rounder when the Flyers hired Torts ... turned out to be 55th overall ... and canucks blew it on Jonah Gadjovich

CBJ might not want to give up a second rounder to the Kings because it might be top 40 ?

/not saying this doesnt reflect badly on the Kings though ... coaches around the league will see them holding a fellow coach hostage basically

Maybe I am not remembering correctly but didn’t the blue jackets have to wait to hire Babcock until his Toronto contract was up? That didn’t work out so well.

They stopped that after the Jackets hired Torts.

The rub is that the Kings are on the hook for the difference bewteen what they have him under contract for and what the Jackets want to pay him. So the conversation probably went like this:

Blake: Give him the full 5.5 million
Waddell: What? He's a decent coach but he's not worth that much. Only an idiot would pay him that.
Blake: kicks rock Fine. You can't have him at all then.
Waddell: You'll pay him 5 and a half to do nothing rather than paying him like 2 and a half to do nothin?
Blake: <angrily> YEAH
Waddell: You are an idiot.

Meh, you didn't want McLellan anyway...
The final choices are McLellan, Woodcroft and Evason. White Bread, Vanilla Ice Cream or filtered water.

Yeah, but we can't wait this one out because Kings pay him til next July first.

Oh Christ, stupid me did not realize the team that fired any coach under contract still has all the leverage.

It is pretty idiotic not to let a coach go somewhere else so you don’t have to pay them any longer

dont feel bad ... I thought the canucks got compensation from the Flyers for Torts :gaah:

/ this quote from Bettman in that story is gold ... the system now without the draft pick compensation is much MUCH cleaner as witnessed by whats going on with McLellan

"I think on balance, it just wasn't worth the debate, the confusion, the uncertainty that flowed from it," Bettman said.

Nope, not news on a coach. Sorry.

Two products of our program faced off against each other in the Cap City Summer League today. All told 4 guys who have come through our program, another I coached in PeeWee and a goalie I have worked with a few times (friend of my son from goalie camp long ago) are playing with the pros. And Jack Johnson.

Evason is alright but Jared Boll is better than Jay Woodcroft. I’d rather have Dallas Eakins than Jay Woodcroft.

Projected lines from the Jackets' beat writer

For the love of God, if Brindley, LDBB or Dumbass are even remotely capable - keep Olivier off the ice.

Also a third line has KJ, Sillinger and Vronk and Jenner is above that.

I feel bad for Jared Boll - I thought he had a shot at head coach.
