The rub is that the Kings are on the hook for the difference bewteen what they have him under contract for and what the Jackets want to pay him. So the conversation probably went like this:

Blake: Give him the full 5.5 million
Waddell: What? He's a decent coach but he's not worth that much. Only an idiot would pay him that.
Blake: kicks rock Fine. You can't have him at all then.
Waddell: You'll pay him 5 and a half to do nothing rather than paying him like 2 and a half to do nothin?

Oh Christ, stupid me did not realize the team that fired any coach under contract still has all the leverage.

It is pretty idiotic not to let a coach go somewhere else so you don’t have to pay them any longer

dont feel bad ... I thought the canucks got compensation from the Flyers for Torts

All told 4 guys who have come through our program, another I coached in PeeWee and a goalie I have worked with a few times (friend of my son from goalie camp long ago) are playing with the pros.
