So, I would like to recap the failures and successes of the Blue Jackets organization this past week, according to the Kool Aid drinkers.

What we got right:
Advanced stat black hole Jack Johnson coming back
Didn't overpay Lindholm that somewhat reasonable contract he got in Boston

What we missed on:
Drafted Caden Lindstrom - Should have picked Demidov
Let sure-fire Gretzky record beater Alexandre Texier go
Let sure fire best Nylander brother Alex go
Let sure fire Norris trophy winning midget Nick Blankenburg go
Let apparent Central Ohio product Carson what's his name go
Let star defenseman Jake Bean go
Did not bring back a broken down Cam Atkinson
Did not bring back a broken down Alex Wennberg
Signed Monahan when Stamkos was RIGHT THERE
Hired a broadcaster other than the flapjacks on a ferris wheel guy
Have apparently narrowed down the coach search before knowing Joel Quenneville was reinstated

It is so exhausting being a part of this fanbase sometimes.

Is the Saddledome the oldest arena in the NHL?

Wait, is it even still the Saddledome or is it something else?

/how could I forget MSG

Scotiabank Saddledome is the official name - New arena is scheduled to be ready for sometime in the 2027-28 season. I think MSG is technically the oldest building in the league, but it's gone through several renos through the years.

MSG's basically brand new though like Dash said.

Funnily enough the new runner-runner up behind the Saddledome is Utah and they're basically going to have to figure out their situation immediately.

Add to all of this, it has been announced JMFJ is wearing #3 and Moneyhands is wearing #23.

Some people are saying that Kuraly should have to give #7 back to Johnson, while others are wondering why Monahan can have 23 since Jake Christiansen wore it last year and he's "still on the team".

Probably all the same people who went apeshit when Fantilli switched to 19 because they had already bought 11 jerseys.

Can a club with a coach under contract but fired prevent the hiring of said coach? I mean unless that's the case then what would there be to discuss with the former club? The Jackets shouldn't have to negotiate a salary with the last club because they were going to paid what was owed anyway, it would be irrelevant what the Jackets pay as no matter what the Jackets lessen their cost. Why would you call them?

Negotiate with your new coach and move on.

If the prior team is still paying out the contract, they retain the coach's rights.

If they fire him for cause other than being a shitty coach (ass grabbing at a Blackhawks Christmas party, corey example), then former team can stop paying him and he becomes a free perry. Errr, free agent.

Sorry, Freudian Purse-swinging.

Okay, I guess that makes sense. But for what reason would a team that has a coach under contract want to prevent him from getting another job if they can deduct whatever he gets from the new team from what they themselves are paying him? New team shouldn't have to negotiate shit for a guy you fired.

And while we are at it, let's go ahead and add coaches to the salary cap if they are assets that a team controls.

Spite.

Not sure it's happened anytime recently but I would guess at some point some prick like Harold Ballard likely prevented one of his fired coaches from working elsewhere.

Fuck

The

Kings
whats the going rate on compensation for hiring a coach fired yet still under contract to another team ?

Canucks got a 2nd rounder when the Flyers hired Torts ... turned out to be 55th overall ... and canucks blew it on Jonah Gadjovich

CBJ might not want to give up a second rounder to the Kings because it might be top 40 ?

/not saying this doesnt reflect badly on the Kings though ... coaches around the league will see them holding a fellow coach hostage basically
