Guy doesn't speak a lick of English, so I can see having trouble adjusting. The question is - there are 4 Russian speakers in the room and 2 more guys who learned and can communicate ok in Russian. What is the disconnect?

Cautious optimism. Askarov is still very young but seems to have figured out the AHL. He will stay down this year (barring injuries) and probably next year as well. Saros’ contract runs through next year so no need to accelerate his growth and bring him up before 25-26.

Russians seem to prefer a few particular places in North America. Could just be him angling to be dealt to one of those places.

I'd be okay with that based on the potential return. But it was rumo(u)red last week from a Russian site that he wants to come home. I ignored that but Jarmo confirmed it.

He has an out clause in his contract that will allow him to return to his KHL team if he is not on the roster by end of December, so he could refuse to play, get deactivated and go home for free.
