Marchenko did not play a game in the NHL until December.

He said pre-game that he had been asking about moving to pivot since Christmas but nothing came of it. Brad Larsen left the team after the Anaheim game to attend to personal matters and he gets the shot. So far making the best of it.

At the end of the day, one team is going to be happy on lottery day and 31 won't. And odds and all that shit is just window dressing. It's 50/50. Either we get him or we don't. You cannot engineer where you pick. AND if you are unhinged enough to believe that the league rigs it for certain teams then tanking doesn't matter. It doesn't change the odds. Either it's rigged for you, or it isn't.

The season is long lost. It's a time to try things and see if they work. Laine at Center. Marchenko on the top PP, turn Foudy into a checking winger. Can guys like Jake Christiansen and Marcus Bjork hang with NHL-level opposition? Is Gillies or Hutchinson worth keeping around?

We have the third ranked prospect pool in the league, we're adding two more first rounders this summer. If it's the uberstar, awesome. If it's not, it will still be someone who will make a long term difference. Plus, had the injury bug not bitten us, we'd probably be closer to Ottawa than 1OA. Only a punch to the dick by the Hockey Gods has us in this discussion in the first place.
