Sauna time: Laine was, as usual, one of the stars of the media session, with the Finnish winger showing off his trademark deadpan humor on the first day of interviews.

At one point, Laine was asked what he hopes to show off when the Blue Jackets play two games in his hometown of Tampere, Finland, against Colorado in early November. For anyone who knows anything about Finland, the answer was no surprise -- "a real sauna."

"You guys have no clue about that stuff over here," Laine said. "I'll show you guys -- not you guys, but my teammates what a real sauna looks like and we'll see who holds up with me over there.

What is a real sauna? As it turns out, in Finland, saunas often are set at 80 to 100 degrees Celsius, some even hotter.

"Oh, it's hot," he said. "It's hotter than anybody here is ever used to. We'll see how many guys are going to be in the hospital after."

Who is least likely to be able to handle the heat? Laine turned to Finland's traditional rival, Sweden, and Roslovic -- who Laine often pokes fun at for supposedly not enjoying Winnipeg's previous trip to Finland a few years ago -- for the answer.

"Probably one of the Swedes, I'm guessing," Laine said. "Or Jack. He's pretty soft."

The guy oversaw drafting Subban, Price, Sergachev, McDonagh, Pacioretty, and Kotkaniemi

Probably not his fault the Canadiens can't keep talent. But he seems to be able to identify it at least.

little r*pist notwithstanding. Doubt Jarmo and JD would have let him pick that jackass.

Only ones of those guys drafted in the last ten years was Sergachev and Kotkaniemi and to put that in perspective, while everybody shits on AZ for passing on Hughes and taking Hayton the Habs passed on both Hughes AND Brady Tkachuk and Kotkaniemi's pts/82 games is only 4 better than Hayton.

Could laud him for Sergachev but McAvoy and Chychrun are both better and were both drafted after him. Caufield's probably going to be good.

Only other guys drafted of note beyond that in the past decade were Galchenyuk (whom they passed on Forsberg to take the C available then realized he couldn't play C lol), Romanov and Lehkonen, out of 60 picks between 2012-2019. 6 for 60. For comparison, during the Mark Hunter era from 2015-2017 the Leafs drafted 5 guys out of 27 picks who you could consider at least decent NHL'ers and the Mark Hunter era is considered a disaster here lol

Just screams of a "hockey man" hire is all. Long as he's not running things should be fine, just get the feeling there's someone more deserving out there.

Well, yeah probably. They did just hire Roman Polak as well, so they are not all old boys club. Can't say that Jarmo and JD always do the conventional thing. They must see something in him they like.

I don't recognize any of those names in Amateur scouting beyond Ville "Terminator" Siren.

Must not get too hyped, must not get too hyped, must not get too hyped...

91 to 13 to 29

Edit: just realized that the guy KJ walked in the corner was James Neal, so I am not sure how this play would have developed against NHL talent. But still. Like the awareness.

Johnny was asked if he was happy that the flames rebounded by getting Hubie and Kadri.

Glad they are doing another season of this show. This one covers the draft, the renovations and the signing.

Looks like the Gaudreau deal did come together at the last minute. After the deal was finalized, Jarmo said "Ohhh My Goddd. Johnny Freakin Hockey is a Blue Jacket".

I don't think anyone in that room actually believed it was happening.

Guy is beast. So happy with this. was afraid he would be a casualty of Gubberson's contract.

I was hoping he WOULD be a casualty of Gubber's contract. He'd be a great fit in Ottawa.

Really nice up and coming top 4 D.

Bean is pretty well the odd man out already and Jiricek is looking like he will be ready sooner rather than later. That may wind up pushing Gavrikov or Boqvist out as well. And the team LOVES Gavrikov.
