Good news. The blue pants look better with the white.

Also, I expect Bjorkstrand to turn into a Flames killer in short order...Thanks Jarmo!

Only positive is maybe Texier, China or Marchenko will break out with Voracek on the second line.

But I wanted to see Bjorkstrand break out there.

Why deal him so quickly? You’re allowed to be over the cap until the season starts. There’s no way he’s only worth a third and fourth rounder.

Also, is this the first trade Ron Francis has been on the winning side of since his playing days?

Exactly - I mean, even if you don't want to bring back a roster player, I have to think there are teams that would offer a 1st round pick for Bjorkstrand.

I’d give a first and then some right now if I’m Dubas and see if Seattle will eat 50%. That’s some cheap scoring right there.

The only thing I can think of is that a 1st in a draft that has Bedard and Michkov is like a golden ticket and no GM is willing to part with theirs. Obviously, the league will want Arizona to get him, and Chicago and Philly will be epically bad. But one bad season could change fortunes for a long time.

Jarmo's press release essentially said this was the best offer he had to make the room for Laine. Granted, that may have changed dramatically by the open of camp, especially if some players from either Hockey Canada scandal get contracts voided or kicked out of the league. He can be 10% over the cap, so there really was no rush to do this.

I mean, just moving Jake Bean would have been enough. Someone surely would have taken him, even for futures. Or Nyquist at 30% retained for a 3rd rounder. who wouldn't?
