The Cannon Cast Episode 73: CIHC Executive Director John Haferman

Good listen. John has become a good friend over the 3 years my son has played for him. His son and daughter were goalie partners for my son the first two years. I am on the board for the program, and our program rep for the High School hockey league. And I will probably be one of the goalie coaches for the program this year. My son has committed to be guest goalie coach for the team when he's home from college.

John is close friends with Willie O'Ree and was actually in the audience as Willie's guest when he went into the Hall. Hope John wins the award soon. I nominate him every year and will do so until he wins. He's exactly the type of guy I want my kid looking up to.

torts getting into playoff mode

At one point during the scrimmage he went down to the railing behind one bench and tore somebody up. And to start the third period, he switched a few players between teams.

And apparently twatwaffle was not pleased with the officiating all night, so he's probably just pissed because he had a REALLY great "gotcha" question about it that he couldn't use.

Bemmer: I got by Jonesey. That doesn't happen a lot.
Reporter: So you knew it was him chasing you?
Bemmer: It's why I was skating so hard

Also, in the scrimmage Wennberg scored 2 goals and assisted on 2 others. He had 5 goals in the regular season.

I think going with Korpi as the #1 is good (for this year at least). Hopefully it doesn't affect Elvis in the future, though.

Korpi has airways got so much praise from the coaching staff, which makes me think he's a great practice player. No fans in the stands is more practice like. Also, Elvis does like to feed off fans, some.

Interesting take. It will be interesting to see if the Leafs G can get past his playoff yips in an empty barn

Good luck to you :suds:

I played basketball growing up, not hockey, so that thought process might be complete shit.

But when coaches really liked players that didn't seem to perform to that expectation in game time, that was why a lot of times. 43 obviously knows the position pretty well, so maybe he'll say I'm full of shit, haha.

Not at all.

Korpisalo has earned the right to start. He has been through an NHL playoff series before even if not playing, he saw what it looked like and what it takes from the bench/in the room. Elvis has never been through it, so that's an unknown.

My concern is we have seen the absolute best that Korpisalo can give and he managed it for far longer than expected. And it's good. Real good. But i don't think we've seen Elvis' max yet. He still has another level he can go to, I feel. In that scrimmage against Boston, Korpi was good. But Elvis made 2 or 3 that Korpi wouldn't have gotten. Then again, Elvis gave up one Korpi probably would have had.

If I was putting money down, I would say Elvis starts. Just because of the X factor. You kinda don't know what he's gonna do. Any cracks in the armor, though...

Mom was an Olympic sprinter (ran the anchor leg at the 1984 Olympics for Canada in the 400m relay winning a silver medal), Dad won the Grey Cup in 1994 with the BC Lions (track and football star). That's some good genes.

It's insane how fast he gets to top speed. Dig in once and he's gone. He gets himself some hands, and he's gonna be something special.
