Says who? What GMs have come out and said they've changed their mind on a player based on a 40 time? I haven't heard one. I've heard Mayock, Sanders, Eisen... doing their normal media hype.Too many GM's putting stock in 40 yd dash times and other nonsense.
Too many GM's are overly impressed with physical testing and overlook production in college. The better franchises seem more focused on productivity over testing.Says who? Al Davis is gone

There are too many workout warriors that become duds in the NFL.All elements should be taken into account, some in moderation. Productivity is great, but if that 100 tackle linebacker runs a 5.0 40 or does poorly in the bench, he's not going to get off blocks or cover much territory in the NFL. It's not always easy to read true speed from game tape, especially when NCAA game play is slower than NFL game play.
Same goes for productive players... a recent example is Jarvis JonesThere are too many workout warriors that become duds in the NFL.

He wasn't that productive.

The combine is useful to some degree but there is too much emphasis on testing. I'd rather watch film of these players in actual game situations. You're wrong. The more information you can get about a player the better. The combine is extremely important to people who follow this stuff closely.
It's not everything, but that doesn't make it meaningless.
