Says who? What GMs have come out and said they've changed their mind on a player based on a 40 time? I haven't heard one. I've heard Mayock, Sanders, Eisen... doing their normal media hype.
Al Davis is gone

Too many GM's are overly impressed with physical testing and overlook production in college. The better franchises seem more focused on productivity over testing.

All elements should be taken into account, some in moderation. Productivity is great, but if that 100 tackle linebacker runs a 5.0 40 or does poorly in the bench, he's not going to get off blocks or cover much territory in the NFL. It's not always easy to read true speed from game tape, especially when NCAA game play is slower than NFL game play.

I would say Combine drills shouldn't do a whole lot to give players big boosts unless they are late round prospects that test well but more so the combine can be a place that drops your stock.

A great example is that of Jonathan Allen. The Combine showed his shoulder injuries are a little more troublesome than first thought and then you add in he didn't test as well as many thought and he is a prime guy that could drop say 10 spots in the 1st round.

Teez Tabor had some red flags pop up running what a 4.68. As a Corner that just cannot happen. College you can get away with it for the most part but NFL that lack of top end speed can really destroy a player at that position.

There are too many workout warriors that become duds in the NFL.

Both CFB production and physical testing can be deceiving.

With the Jr season now being the benchmark for many of the top draft prospects, there is more separation from CFB to the NFL game, especially at QB, OL. Teams are willing to take risks on the most athletic players if they feel they can be coached up. If you had killer stats in college but your athletic ability is just okay, (Jarvis Jones) you're not going to project well into the league today...not as a high draft pick anyway.

Speed is huge factor in the NFL today.

True...what you can't measure is a player's heart and desire to be the best they can be.

TRich (Richardson) imo was one of those players...he had the production in college and he had the physical ability but I think he was content with his top 5 draft money.

You're wrong. The more information you can get about a player the better. The combine is extremely important to people who follow this stuff closely.

It's not everything, but that doesn't make it meaningless.

The combine is useful to some degree but there is too much emphasis on testing. I'd rather watch film of these players in actual game situations.

Yes, of course game performance is more important. But they're not mutually exclusive. Smart GMs will analyse a player from every possible angle, including how high they can jump, their 10-yard splits, weight / speed combo', arm length, hand size, how smooth they look in drills, etc.
