He could. He can get after the QB, but I don't know that I'd call him a pass-rush specialist. He's simply not that athletic compared to NFL OLBs. I'd be more interested in going after a guy like Brandon Jenkins (low stock) or maybe Sean Porter later in the draft. Maybe even Michael Buchanon from Illinois to a lesser extent.

I see Murphy as more of a 4-3 LDE than an OLB in the NFL. JMHO.

He has a great namde though. Trent Murphy. Sounds like a hero in an action movie.

Just because Murphy is white doesn't mean he's not athletic. Did you see him run down the Oregon qb last week? He's very athletic, thats why they drop him in coverage so often.

Raymond: The Stanford front seven controlled the game. It wasn’t a key play to me but watching a 6-foot-6, 260 lb linebacker (Trent Murphy) chase down Marcus Mariota on a scramble really made me think this game would be different. Stanford’s front line was in the backfield the whole night so Mariota didn’t look comfortable and they couldn’t get Kenjon Barner on track.

There are db's that haven't been able to run Mariota down!

Who said anything about him being white? JJ Watt is as athletic as just about anyone in the NFL, and he's white. Murphy, on the other hand, is not a great athlete. He doesn't have great speed & agility; that has a lot to do with the fact that he's 6'6, but that's not the only reason. You'll see that when he gets to the combine. That's not to say he isn't any good; I just don't see him as a pass-rush specialist in the NFL.

I'm really looking forward to watching Stanford next season. They're going to have all those 2012 recruits playing next season, the best o line class ever, plus Barry J. Sanders. They brought in some db's and a very good olb also. These guys are going to be young and talented, plus Hogan will be a season experienced.

National Title in 2015, I'm calling it now.

You'll see that he's more athletic than Watt, not as good as Watt though, not at all. They both happen to be 6'6 too, Aldon happens to be 6'5 and very athletic, Dion Jordan and Devin Taylor are both 6'7 and ver athletic, height means nothing when it comes to olbs.

You've gotta be kidding me. More athletic than Watt? No. He's not even close. If he were, he'd be a top 10 pick.

I know there are tall guys who are extremely fast & agile, but Murphy isn't one of them. You're severely overrating him.

All I can say is that you'll see when it comes to combine time.

It still won't make him a top 10 pick, maybe he could sneak into the 2nd round though.

Maybe I'm putting a little too much on it saying he's more athletic than Watt, though he's in the same ballpark. Watt is a much, much better player though. Murphy dosn't use his hands or have the moves like Watt at all. Murphy is very athletic though, he excells in coverage, as well as against the run and pass rushing.

To me he wouldn't be a bad option as the 3rd olb.

I still don't understand how Derek Dooley only won 5 games with this team.

Because he hired a 34 D coach for this season when he had a 43 D players. The result was the worst defense in Tennessee history.

A 6'6 260+ pound OLB who even sniffs the same level of athleticism JJ Watt has isn't a 3rd OLB; he's a probowler.

Not true. He doesn't have the pass rush moves, use of hands and all around tenacity of a player like JJ Watt. He uses just a speed move and a bull rush to go along with his solid play. He's just not a spectacular player.

Using your theory would mean Devin Taylor is going to be a Hall of Famer. It takes more than size and athleticism to be a great player.

What a colossal waste of offensive talent this year. It really saddens me that instead of a potentially special year, we had a burning carcass for a season. I like Dooley as a person, but very glad that chapter has come to an end. The AD needs to step up and make a serious hire.

Devin Taylor isn't anywhere near the athlete JJ Watt is either.

No, he's not. J.J. Watt was an elite, can't miss prospect. Mario Williams type athlete.

I don't think Notre Dame can beat either SEC Team. They both have the best defense Notre Dame will likely have played all year. I think Georgia is a little more potent on offense, but Alabama finds ways to win. It will be the hardest game of the year for Notre Dame.

Interesting fact though. The last time Georgia was declared the Nation Champion they beat Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. That was also the year a certain Freshman RB named Walker #34 burst onto the scene. If Georgia wins the National Title this year it will by beating Notre Dame behind a season of success from 2 Freshmen RB's wearing #3 and #4.

Hopefully Georgia wins the SEC Title. It's a much better story to have them playing Notre Dame than Alabama.
