Here is how bad Denver's QBing was last year

  • 30th in quarterback rating (76.3), well below the league average (90.2). Keep in mind, the Cowboys, with their revolving door of back ups trying to replace Tony Romoactually ranked higher, and only the Rams were worse.
  • 29th in completions of 20 yards or more (41), again, way below the league average (53)
  • 28th in touchdown passes (19), again well off the average pace (26)
  • 25th in completion percentage (60.7)
  • 23rd in yards per attempt (6.96, tied with the Cowboys)
  • 26th in quarterback rating on attempts that traveled at least 21 yards in the air (57.7), far below the league average (91.7)

wow

The Cowboys were basically a guaranteed loss each week at that point because of their QBs

This Bronco team needed to be shaken up ( as it has been ) - yes, we won it all, but there was a point in Week 15 in which even making the playoffs was in jeopardy ..

John Elway met with Colin Kaepernick on Thursday

There's still a good chance Kaep becomes a Bronco

It was at least the second meeting between the two since the Niners gave permission for Kaepernick's camp to seek a trade. Without that permission, Elway would not be able to speak directly with the quarterback

John himself is meeting with Kap .. and has twice already

Report: Colin Kaepernick, John Elway met in Denver on Thursday

This piece makes it sound like - there will be a trade for Colin Kaepernick - and it may include Ryan Clady - and if I'm reading this right - Anthony Davis. If the Broncos had Okung and Anthony Davis at the tackles - and Stephenson at swing tackle - they will have built a beautiful wall for the offense to operate behind. Anthony Davis is a free spirit, but a top RT if he is ready to play.

However, Branch mentioned that Clady could be involved in a deal between Denver and San Francisco.

The 49ers have left tackle Joe Staley, 31, a five-time Pro Bowler, but question marks at right tackle. Anthony Davis has said repeatedly on social media that he will return this season after taking a one-year sabbatical in 2015 to address health issues. In late February, ESPN reported Davis was formally set to apply for reinstatement. On Friday, however, the right tackle said, via Twitter, that he will apply for reinstatement "later this year," adding that dealing with general manager Trent Baalke was giving him a "headache." Given that, it’s unlikely Davis will be present Monday when the 49ers begin their offseason program.

The two sides would still need to workout the details of any deal, be it draft picks and/or players. It's been reported the Broncos have a fourth-round value on Kaepernick, though they don't have a fourth-round pick in this year's draft. That could mean Denver sends a draft pick in 2017 to the 49ers.

At the very least, the Thursday meeting shows mutual interest and that a deal could be close. If it's not, as San Jose Mercury News columnist Tim Kawakami tweeted, why would the 49ers allow a meeting between the two to happen? And with a player San Francisco allegedly wants to keep?

As Vic Lombardi said on Twitter: "Not if, but when. Gonna happen," with relation to Kaepernick coming to the Broncos.

Sounds like they just need to work out the money and it's done.

SF is stupid for dragging their feet on this trade, it could've been done deal by now, but with his salary fully guaranteed they're going to have a tough time getting him to take a pay cut

I don't think it will go thru still. Kap will be riding the bench in SF in 2016. The media is going to have fun with this ongoing saga.

Very interesting on the Anthony Davis part of the trade. He definitely wants out of San Fran so makes sense for them to trade 2 guys that don't want to be there. If we can trade Clady in the process with his huge cap number that would be huge. Not sure what Davis' cap number would be though with his abrupt retirement. My guess is all the Broncos would have to pay would be his base salary which was going to be $2.65 million for this year. That would also add some great depth to our OL having 2 guys that can play RT at possibly a high level and whoever loses the battle becomes the swing guy for us.

Not sure what to think of all this. I love Kubiak's track record with helping failing QB's get their careers back on track but part of me had already moved onto the draft being the way we would go.

Totally agree. No team was buying their poker face crap, but I think in the end Kaep wants out of SF so bad that he'll agree to a restructure with Denver. I understand the $5 mil guaranteed that he's giving up is a chunk, but he wants out of SF, and to be to immediately come to a contender makes it a bit easier to stomach. Of course, he'll still get his $7 mil which should be enough to get the mortgage paid and whatnot....

Add in he will make it back really fast if he wins on a team that has been winning despite the QB .He should be smiling .. just like Oz should have been ..
