I don't see how it's going to change once he's gone - Cruz, Hawley, Boebart, or some other morally reprehensible piece of garbage will step into the void he leaves. Many of the Senators and Governors have clearly been courting his base so much so they were unfazed by a full-on assault of the Capitol. The worst part is that Trump is pretty stupid and not very sinister. He wants to be popular sure, but he wasn't a war hawk or seeking anything aside from enriching himself and having crowds clap for him. His actions were almost 100% predictable because his needs/desires were fully and pathetically transparent. This started with Limbaugh and Gingrich, continued through the Tea Party, and morphed into Trumpism. The Cheneys who point out the grift or the McCains who argue for a respectful exchange of ideas were repudiated. They are scared Christmas is being assaulted, that voting isn't working , and that brown/black/gay people have it too good. Those are all easy to be convinced of when you operate out of privilege and can be guided by rhetoric and fear instead of by logic and information. They don't want to change. Most of them never will. They expect the world to adapt to them, they are not empathetic to real and significant challenges our society faces (that would ironically benefit them), and they are easily swayed to policies and ideas that others convince them will help them but are in reality policies that consolidate wealth to the rich and the corporations. Trying to understand them is a waste of time. Defeat them. Over and over. We've played nice for too long. Clown stomp them into the ground.

When your ideas are this fucked up there isn't much hope.

It's just so amazing how they are openly demonizing education and science.
And a quarter of the populations are like "yeah, fuck smart people"

mind boggling

Shame on Dr. Fauci for not having all the answers immediately for a novel (aka new) coronavirus. Also, how dare he state that wearing masks was not critical for people in the early days of COVID-19 when he knew the PPE stockpile was basically non-existent at the time and he was thinking of frontline workers (mainly those people in healthcare). After the stockpile was replenished and the lockdown was over after what a couple of weeks, that's when Dr. Fauci stressed the importance of wearing masks (especially indoors). But yeah, let's defund education and Dr. Fauci.

The crazy thing is if Trump would have just listened to Dr. Fauci and followed the science, he's probably enjoying a second term right now. I mean, he did the absolute minimum and still received 75 million votes, he knew how dangerous COVID-19 was as the Woodward tapes revealed and ignored it and hoped it would just go away.

Orwellavelllian.
I was thinking Orwell, or Machiavelli. but sure. lol
Oh, c'mon...a bunch of cold-blooded, inhuman MAGAt creatures bent on destroying our democracy and raping our planet of its resources, all the while determined to discredit scientists and academics who might find a way to stop them. All started by a Newt (another cold-blooded lower life-form).

That has "V" written all over it.

Do you think they actually believe this or are they just speaking the throughts of their supporters to stay in power. , The Republican party seems quite insane

In his case, I assume he actually believes it. He holds no value in educators because education didn't work for him.
