So they are aware of the shooter and have him in their sights but they don’t fire on him until he fires first. Hmmmmm

This is the incredible part of this tragedy. The snipers jpb is to keep eyes on potential risks, not to watch the speech. They appear to be looking at a potential risk but do not appear to do anything.

Having said that, is it possible the gunman was out of sight due to the roof slope until he is ready to fire

Were secret service agents on their way to the rooftop and they didnt get their in time?

Or was he up there for 5 minutes in plain view and no one did anything?

There will be a thorough investigation, and half the population wont believe any of it. And there will be 10,000 Jim Garrison's with a free worldwide ability to speak their "truth".

Sad days indeed.

What is even worse none of the media coverage is making mention of any of the violent rhetoric Trump has stated over and over as a possible reason behind this.

He should be called on it for sure. Sometimes ignoring an idiot is the best course of action. Not give him MORE of a platform, etc.

Trump has a great chance at the upcoming Republican national convention to change the national discourse and say things like "We need to come together as a nation" and "We cannot continue to be this divisive" etc.

/Of course, the opposite will happen and it will be like pouring gas on a fire.

Yet another problem. They continue to give him all the attention.

I would not doubt him saying JFK was a loser because he didn't survive like he did

Spent a bit of time with some OSINT groups I am in last night and this video has the community split on negligence or malice. Looking at the overhead of the area, it is damn near criminal that there wasn't protection on the roof the shot came from (identified by where the shooter being killed was filmed at). Besides the barn where this SS sniper was and a second SS two buildings over further from shooter the roof the shooter got onto was the closest elevated position to the podium. Plus there was a large tree between this station and the shooter. I can see the agent hesitating because he may not be completely clear on what he sees. The failure here was not his.

To make it a further failure, there was a second story roof on the same building 50 feet further behind the one story where the shooter was that had a clean view of the podium and the entire roof the shooter got up on as well. One Secret Service agent on that taller roof would have prevented the whole thing. Instead they had police and Secret Service on the ground. All of that building should have been inside the security perimeter even though it was outside the venue. I see a narrative trying to be framed that an ex-president doesn't get the same level of protection as a sitting president, but it doesn't wash. There were SS agents in the area of the building. Putting one up high stops all of it.

The next question is how did none of the police or Secret Service agents notice a guy put a ladder up to the building from a parking lot 135 yards from where a former President was speaking. This kid was not a master tactician, he just got incredibly lucky. But there were at least a dozen places this could have been stopped.

@forty_three , time to put on your gumshoes

Rumor I have read he was 22, unemployed, registered Republican. Yett having no job and being a republican magically donated to the act blue PAC.

The BS coming out right now is funny,
The guy was wearing a T-shirt tied to a right wing gun nut youtube channel and I remember that Timothy McVeigh was a bootlicker who was hoping his action would start a civil war. Still not enough out there to know what his motivation was, but this being in that vein would not surprise me at all. But the guy who shot Reagan was trying to impress an actress. The lady who shot at Gerald Ford was trying to protect trees. Doesn't have to tie up into a neat bow. And Trump is a celebrity first and political leader second. Mark David Chapman killed Lennon so he could be famous himself. A guy killed Dimebag Darrell because Pantera broke up.

Think about his age though. This guy has never interacted with the political process without the Internet/Twitter/4Chan existing. These social media companies do not give one flying fuck what they do to you as long as you stay engaged and feed them ad dollars. The same algorithms that continue to serve an anxious kid who doesn't feel comfortable with their body changes content about how they must be trans feeds inadequate feeling guys content about how the whole world is to blame for their lot in life. The world of fandoms have created an entire generation of people who only know extremes and can't even conceive of a compromise, because every piece of media they have consumed their entire life has convinced them everyone in the world is incapable of compromise. My own kids sometimes get confused about how I can like both metal and rap music. And how I can like rap but can't stand Puff Diddy or Kanye. How I can like Classic Rock and Roll and hate the Rolling Stones. There's no nuance, and the thing is it's the one thing "both sides" actually do. Exploit it.

All that's left is to see what problem is going to be addressed. Will it lead to more talk of mental health services for youth? Probably not. Will we hold social media companies accountable for their manipulation? Unlikely, especially with how much Elmo donated last week. We saw his manipulation of the narrative last night in real time. Will it branch into the mainstream media and the fairness with which they report? Nah. Will it cause politicians to soften their rhetoric? *shrugs*

All we know for sure is we will never discuss the one key component of this - the killing machine and how easy it is to get one. Standing by to see if any people like Bobo or Madge will wear their AR-15 pins to work on Monday. If only they were this pissed off when it was a room full of dead six year olds.
