Bet you called your kid by your dogs name a few times. :D Trust me I have.
I was going to respond similarly earlier. My mother called us by the dog or cats name many many times.

For me it probably did not help that the cat''s name was my middle name. ( he was named when we got him)

This is the crux of it. It's never about who can govern. Who has the knowledge to do the job. Who can set the best policy. It's who can gather the most coverage and get themselves in power by convincing the most people to give them a vote, or at least not cause to people to skip the vote. And there are just too many ill-informed people where style always wins over substance.

Politics is not sport. It's not about looking past everything as long as you are wearing the right color at the end of the game. Shot some people to death? Yeah, but have you seen how many touchdowns he has? It's the same. People are wearing T-shirts celebrating the fact that their guy wears diapers and looking past the ince$t, ped0philia, r*pe, extortion, tax evasion and who knows what else with no care at all for what he will do to them so they can say they were on the winning side.

I saw it said once that Politics is like public transport. Almost no one gets a bus that drops them off exactly at the front door of where they are going. You get on the bus that is going to take you the closest to your destination. And if you choose not to get on a bus because it isn't going to drop you off exactly where you want to go, then you aren't going anywhere. Subsequently, more and more busses wind up going to the places the most people want to go.

I don't believe for a second that a president is an all-knowing oracle who has their fingers in every single decision. They set direction for the administration and the administration hires smart people to make them happen. Ronald Reagan didn't personally do the majority of the heinous things that happened while he was president. Hell, he wasn't even aware of where he was while most of them were happening. But it underscores the point of putting the wrong person and the wrong ideas into power and the busses all wind up going to the wrong places.

Yet another very well said comment that has been out there for a while and really needs to be bumped over and over.
