I feel bad for them, but Watson getting hurt again may be a blessing in disguise and a light at the end of the tunnel for that franchise.

Then again, with Jimmy Haslam, they badly fail my "owner theory" test of which franchises have a realistic chance to compete. They like the Jets and a few others have no realistic chance until they get a new owner.

Haslam should have been forced to sell the team

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but it’s a lot more challenging when the head coach isn’t a play caller. If Andy Reid were to lose his coordinators (hypothetical), Reid would really only need to replace a defensive play caller. Since Campbell isn’t a play caller, he has to replace two. And they will most likely be outside hires with different game plans.

I don’t think the lions are going straight to the gutter again, but I expect this past season will be their best season for a long time.

Well they went 15-2 so there isn't much room for better. Players win games and their most important ones aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The Lions are going to be good for at least a few more years.

I agree.
So much talent.

All teams each season face the Russian Roulet of Pro Football. This stuff is never fun, made worse if they gang up on a position group or one side of the ball... It becomes a huge uphill battle. Glenn cashed in on that narrative. Good for him!

True. I’m not really going out on a limb with that statement. And I think they will figure it out with coaches. But next year both sides of the ball will have to adapt to new coaching. I think that’s going to affect the overall result. They look like the Cowboys from several years ago to me that the current Cowboys team is a shell of. I honestly think you need to invest in a new QB, but I doubt you can find a better FA than Goff and I doubt you’ll be able to draft one.

With the way these coaching hires seemed to be going. I'm waiting for Jeff Fisher to get a job.

Well first Campbell has been a playcaller, and I think he's a lot more involved in the offense than people realize. And I honestly doubt it will be an outside hire on offense, unless its somebody else from the Parcels/ Payton coaching tree. They're keeping the same general offense and terminology and such. It might be a first time playcaller, I personally think it's our O-Line coach Hank Fraley that gets promoted. But we'll see.

Defense is another story. Lots of people think the heir apparent is in the building, and I doubt they promote an outside assistant. I could see a outside failed HC, I would have like Saleh in that spot. But whoever comes in gets back Hutchinson who was playing like DPoY until he got hurt.

It's certainly not a positive, but I don't think it's insurmountable or anything.

AFC West - Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Pete Carroll. A lot of head coaching years racked up with this group. If the Raiders could ever find a QB, the AFCW will be interesting.

I don't think anyone doubts Pete Carroll as being an excellent head coach. His track record speaks for itself. The only reason I was hoping the Bears wouldn't hire him had nothing to do with knowledge or ability to utilize talent. I just feel at his age Carroll at best will be more of a transitional hire, and that almost immediately people will be wondering how long he'll really last. When getting a new HC it's at least hopeful that he'll be around for a long time. That hope sure hasn't worked out for Bears fans all these years, but we're pinning new hopes on the Ben Johnson hire.
