Seattle has lost one free agent today as Clinton McDonald will sign with Tampa Bay on a four-year deal worth a reported $12 million.

McDonald was a key part of Seattle’s defensive line in 2013, ranking third on the team in sacks with 5.5 after re-signing with the team for $670,000 after the first week of the season after having been released in the initial cutdown to 53.

They are saying this was a given with the Bennett signing. Again a numbers issue. McDonald and his agent have to be pretty stoked on how this worked out considering how much the Seahawks paid him for his one year.

But considering we basically redshirted Hill and Williams last year, I hope they can come in and finally deliver on their potential. Losing BigRed and McDonald is a noticeable hit to our run stuffing.

Ouch! $12 million for 4 years seems cheap, dang I would of though that the Seahawks could have done that much. He had a nice year, last year.
Well I guess the Seahawks think they can find his production for less.

Best of luck of to him. He did a good job for the team and got himself a ring in the process but he was certainly not irreplacable. Hopefully one of the young guys steps it up and the depth isnt affected.

Seattle really took advantage of the depressed market for Dline FAs last year. But the market this year is very different. Lots of new coaches in the NFL and many more teams with money to spend in 2014 + with an increased cap. Plus the Seattle FAs are well coached and showed what they can do in 2013.

We do still have Bennett and Avril locked up for 2014 so we still made out well on the deal geting those two in Seahawks unis.

I wouldn't have given McDonald, who was a rotational player, that kind of money. Happy for him considering he was cut at one point.

It's Lovie Smith. Expect 10 defensive FA signings and 1 offensive signing.

Our back ups are getting starter money. I figured he would be tough to keep. Don't think 3/12 was match able in our situation. Hopefully we can bring back McDaniel and we will still be in ok shape on the line. We still have Hill who barely played and Williams/Scruggs coming of injuries.

Could of been part of a bigger plan.

Reports are Seahawks will be hosting DT Jason Hatcher who was one of many cap victims of the Dallas Cowboys this year. The guy is a probowler who had 11 sacks last season. Will be turning 32 this summer. On that crappy Dallas D, he really stood out as one of the only playmakers in 2013.

He's listed as the #2 DT available in 2014 FA.

Scrugg's had severe pass protection issue's from what i recall, we must improve that or Wilson will be running for his life again this year and no one wants to see that.

NFCWest D's are going to get even tougher this year,i do not want to see Wilson get injured and our playoff's spot go bye bye.

Hill was doing great last season till he was injured and Carroll fully expects him to get snaps this year. He was really happy with the kid. That fills the void of McDonald (to a degree). Jesse Williams is going to be a stud. I was ecstatic when we got him with a FIFTH (kidding me?). He was a late 1st/early 2nd until his injury. He'll fully replace Red and IMO be a better athlete on the field. Only thing we lost with Red was the leadership but our D oozes it all over the field.

I would really like to sign Jared Allen if he's willing to do a 1 year $5M or so deal (similar to Bennett). Allen is a great leader and having Allen, Mebane, Bennett, Avril on a passing down. :omg:

Then we could cut Clemons and use Allen in place. That would save us a bit of cap as well.

Not a huge surprise that teams are snapping up our backups and rotational players. It'll be interesting to see how those guys fare in what I can only assume, based on their salaries, will be greatly expanded roles with their new teams. Some guys go from backup/rotational/situational roles on championship teams to starting/expanded roles on lesser teams and increase their production relative to the extra playing time they receive. Other guys realize the hard way that they were backups, albeit very good backups, for a reason. I anticipate that we'll see both scenarios play out with the guys we lose.

A DT who got double digit sacks? That is AWESOME! I really hope we sign the guy.
