I suppose all that talk about Hue being a player's coach and his ability to instantly turn around the franchise will need a little revision. Current players are fleeing that joint like it's on fire.... And his FA boys here haven't exactly run to him for a new deal. You'd figure he'd at least get a little attention from PacMan, Marvin, Mo or Iloka. He's worked with them all.

Mike Silver was on the NFLN today blaming it on their new GM. It was great, he even had to include a disclaimer he wasn't speaking on Hue's behalf and that Hue has the utmost respect for the Browns personnel department.

He said they're analytic-based scouts and won't budge on overpaying based on their formulas. The problem is Cleveland needs to overpay while they turn the program around. He obviously has a bias towards Hue though but that was his report

That's really interesting. I didn't see that.

My guess is that the problem with 'analytics' in football is that they will always suggest that you don't pay free agents..... But building a program through the draft will take a long time and coaches never last that long. If Hue can't get players, he'll be unemployed within two years.

Silver made that exact point too. The Browns had one of the worst teams in football, huge cap space and on the first day of FA they took the biggest loss of any team in the league

I had expected them to throw millions of dollars at Sanu by now, I guess that ain't happening.

the longer it takes, the more likely it is we get Sanu back.

ah, thanks.

well, that makes Mario Alford our best slot receiver now. he should kick butt in the preseason and build everyones hopes up only to fade into obscurity when the season starts.

Can't sign them all, and honestly, Sanu was at the bottom of that list.

In my mind they retained 3 of the top 4 or 5 guys that they needed to target.

Iloka was the right call over Nelson IMO. Love Nelson, but at his age, if you are going to pay a guy, you pay him for his prime years, which Iloka is just entering.

While Jones is kind of in that same boat with Nelson with age, the depth at CB is much thinner than at Safety where Williams has shown he's ready to step up. Without Jones at CB, it would be Dre and Dennard, and Shaw in the nickle. Dre is awful and was one of the worst rated CB's in all of football last year. Not sure about Dennard, sat a year, and then injured.

Really liked that they were able to re-sign Vinnie Rey. I think losing him would have been a big blow, especially with Burfict out 3 games to start the year.

Jones would have been my top target for offense, obviously, but you just can't overpay for his services with AJ and Tyler basically the #1 and #2 options on offense. Sanu had less receptions than Gio. Shows you where he is on the offense.

My top 2 priority re-signs were Iolka and Adam Jones. Jones for the reasons you said, but also for a special teams spark

yea, Jones and Sanu will be filed into Jerome Simpson like obscurity soon enough.

although Sanu has a good diversion with Julio as the #1 receiver already.

we're probably drafting an offensive weapon of some type, unless they really believe that Rex is a WR.
